Samsung Galaxy Note 7: all the new features

When Samsung announced its Q2 financial results last week, it posted $5+ billion net profit, riding on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge relatively grand sales success, compared to its last two or three flagship editions.

The just-announced Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is one of the most anticipated handsets for the second half of the year, and Samsung is laying big hopes on this one, too, making a big bet to release the Note 7 with a Dual edge panel version only. This makes the Note 7 narrower, and thus a bit more comfortable to hold.

That's not the only thing unique about it, though, as Samsung threw the kitchen sink in there, and then some, making the phone as futureproof as it can be at this moment. There are a lot of "firsts" with the Note 7, at least for Samsung, that is why we are listing all the new features that arrive with the Note 7, when compared to its predecessor, but also the competition in general. Check them out below.

Sorry but Xiaomi's rumored premium phablet and LG's upcoming V20 with rumored 4000mAh is the real beast this year.

assuming those specs are true for the lg, with a 5.5inch fullHD display? I don't think so

23. Kumar123 unregistered

Full HD with a RGB subpixel layout will ensure that it is almost as sharp as QHD pentile display from Samsung note series phone. But FHD will put less pressure on the hardware. If you don't agree with me you can check out anandteck's view on screen resolution. They admitted that FHD is the sweet spot for 5.5 inch screen if it has RGB layout.

Gotta get those eyes checked bruh. Oh wait, you're just trolling? Carry on.

Oh, Yes. anandtech is also trolling. Thanks for pointing that out genius.

Don't bring anandtech here bruh. Everyone here knows you're a troll, even other Apple users here barely side with you on your trolling.

I'll see how you'll behave when Samsung trolls troll other manufacturer phone especially how you will react to jason2k13 comments. I'll make sure you think about twice before calling people troll.

What? You think I don't bash Samsung or android trolls? You aren't new to this site right? You must know by now that I bash trolls, blind fanboys and blind haters regardless of what side they are in. If you aren't a troll, then you must be an incredibly biased person, don't get me wrong, no one is completely unbiased, but your level of bias isn't good.

But with Samsung Game center I can lower the resolution of ANY GAME. so your point Is moot. Also the Note 7 allows you to change the resolution for the phone...PERIOD.

you're comparing what is effectively vaporware, to an existing device?

If anyone has the GS7 Edge, definitely no need to upgrade. But for me this is the best note since note 4.

I miss the days when the note had better internals than the S. $50 more (n7 over s7e) for the spen, +.2" screen, larger battery, iris scanner, GG5 and extra base storage is still a better deal than apple's $100 more (6s+ over 6s) for a larger screen, battery and ois.

Not as interesting as I though it would be, s7 edge and s7 owners would have almost no reason to upgrade unless they r obsessed with spen. This year is a boring year for all smartphone manufacturers.

5. Kumar123 unregistered

If they are obsessed with spen then they wouldn't have bought S7,S7 edge in the first place.

This would not be a phone for someone with an S7 or S7 edge to buy. This is aimed at fans of the Note series and those that enjoy the S-Pen. You can think of it as the iPhone 6S Plus to the 6S: pretty similar phone with very minor differences (screen size, few differentiating factors) that set it apart. That is exactly what Samsung is aiming to do here.

I'm still very surprised how some people still don't understand that concept.

Well, I can still say it does not give any note 5 owner a reason to upgrade. It's still note a substantial upgrade.

The iPhone 6S is not a substantial upgrade to the 6 either. I mean what could you have really expected them to put into this to really make you go out and buy it? 6 GB of RAM? A Snapdragon 823 that isn't even officially out yet? A 4K screen? I can tell you right now, even the Nexus is not going to offer much more in terms of hardware. It may come with a Snapdragon 821/823 (which is essentially just an upclocked version of the 820), but it won't offer more RAM or anything.

It offers the following to Note 5 owners: Note 5 + 500 mAh battery + Better Screen to Body Ratio + 64 GB Base model + MicroSD Card Expansion + Waterproof + More precise Active digitizer pen + IRIS Scanner + Gorilla Glass 5 + Better Camera + Faster Processor + Problematic Type C Port = Note 7 But frankly, I only upgrade once every 2 or 3 years...

The first phone with an inbuilt stylus that's waterproof... Very boring indeed they should have made it fireproof instead right?

Lol, so everyone should have the same opinion as you? We don't live in the days of communism, alright? It's still a boring phone compared to all the other galaxy notes from the past. We would normally see higher res, better screen res, better processor and more ram on notes compared to the s series that year, but no, this year is just lame. Even compared to last year's note5, I don't see much reason to upgrade. Funny when Samsung does almost little to no change, they are appraise and when Apple does it, every single fanboy is all over it. Get over it, note 7 this year is not substantial upgrade.

27. Kumar123 unregistered

Yes, everyone should have the same opinion as our dear Jason. You shouldn't say things against Samsung. Our dear Jason regularly expresses his different opinions about other manufacturer phone. But if someone said that he is trolling he pointed out that it's his right to express opinion and its not trolling. But he can't bear to see other people's opinion about Samsung. He is a highly intelligent person, ;)

Lol so waterproof, iris scanner and USB type C, thinner body is lame compared to ram or screen resolution that you will not or barely notice in the real world? And of course Samsung will be praised more because they make alot more changes compared to Apple.

oh, so now internal hardware suddenly becomes less important than the looks, funny how fanboys can twist the story anyway they like, when s7 was released, they were like the SoC inside is so much powerful than the last years s6, that alone would give a reason to upgrade, and now they are like, no internals are not important, its what features it has, stop defending it already, and look from a neutral perspective, I have a note 5, and I seriously don't see a reason to upgrade, just not substantial

I'm not defending this phone, I'm just correcting you that it's not just ram or high res screen that makes a phone better.
