Readers' choice: This is your favorite phone of 2017

What is the best phone of 2017?

The truth is that it's hard to tell. One phone has that distinct design, another one has a fancy camera, a third one gets software updates quicker, and others shine in their own areas of expertise. While there is no one right phone for everyone, there are some phones that do stand out.

To find out which phones struck a chord with you, our readers, last week we asked you to vote on something important: your favorite phone of 2017.

It's now time to reveal the results and see who won one of the most important awards of the year: the love of users.

The winner is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. With 868 votes, it grabbed a solid 20.5% of the votes and stood tall as the most favored phone amongst our readers.

The runner-up is the iPhone X. It got a solid 656 votes, or 15.5% of votes, and has emerged as the second most popular option among users.

The fight for the third place was particularly heated: the LG V30 got the bronze with 378 votes, but the Galaxy S8 and OnePlus 5T were dangerously close, running just 20 votes behind.

The Google Pixel 2 XL was the next phone in the list, followed by the Galaxy S8+, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. All other phones, have less than 3% of the votes.

You can see the full results of the poll right below.

It’s funny how out of touch with reality voters are on here.

Note 8 is not about Samsung fans. It's about the ONLY device in the category. Noting like Note in the market. Here ppl are not only fans(like you) but also tech guys. Otherwise Samsung takes 34,43%, and Apple - 18.77% of the votes.

It's their opinion on what is the best phone. It has nothing to do with sales or market share.

Except it has tons of issues and doesn't work properly. Otherwise it is great :) P.S. I don't own one, but my Nexus 5X manufactured also by LG was terrible and died due to the infamous production issue. So I easily believe in Pixel 2 XL rumors.

Gotta give it to the xz premium. The most optimized and snappy phone of the year!

Sony is definitely my favourite OEM of the year, everybody's pursuing stupid trends like removing headphone jack and front speakers, weird aspect ratio, phones with anorexia and they are sticking to their guns and keep improving without taking features away. XZ1 Compact is my favourite phone this year along with iPhone 8

Based on the comments (or lack thereof) it's a select few readers whose feelings are hurt. If PA's feelings were hurt they wouldn't've posted this.

I remember one Youtube comment which sums up most of the comment section on Phonearena beautifully: “Android fanboys are the feminists of the tech world. They claim to be superior because they feel unappreciated and that’s why the hate anyone with a different opinion from theirs.” At the end of the day, my opinion stays the same: there’s no wrong choice. You bought and iPhone? You made the right choice. You prefer an Android device? Your choice is equally great. Unfortunately, people seem to be unable to be truly objective and respect other people’s options. That’s why, with few exceptions, this site shouldn’t even have a comment section. It’s not the site’s fault, it’s its userbase.

They're doing what Apple fanboys were and are doing to Windows/PC fans. Now they know how it feels.

“Android fanboys are the feminists of the tech world. They claim to be superior because they feel unappreciated and that’s why the hate anyone with a different opinion from theirs.” Now that's the , Pot calling the kettle black. There are just as many iPhone fans that think they are better then Android fans.

True, but I’m quite confident with saying that most of them (not all) are more mature in expressing their preference. Specifically, head over to Macrumors or 9to5mac or any other Apple-enthusiast website and check their comment section. I’m sure that you’ll find it less insulting in regards to your views, whether your opinion matches theirs or otherwise. Also, keep in mind that I never targeted ONLY Android fanboys, as my post also includes Apple ones. It’s all about being objective and respecting one’s point of view. Over.

So how do you figure you also included iPhone users in your rant? You said that both choices are valid, which is true. But the only group you really said anything negative about is Android users, both in your first and second post. First quoting the post directed solely at Android users, and in your second post calling them immature compared to Apple users. It's akin so saying something offensive, and following it up by saying no offense. If you wanted to include both sets of users, all you had to say was replace Android users with Android and Apple fanatics. There you'd not only include users from both groups, but also narrow it to the fanatical ones, as many are casual users who are content with their choice, and don't see the need to reply to every single negative comment made about their choice.

Check the follow-up comment that I made a couple of minutes after the post you quoted and you’ll find your answer.

I saw that one, and it was there before I made my comment, bit it doesn't really change anything. You still have a lot more negative to say about Android users than Apple ones. Throwing in a weak insult towards Apple users at the end to make it look more unbiased doesn't change that.

Yep, so I guess that in order to make things more “balanced” in your mind, I should’ve dropped some F-bombs on Apple users so that you would feel that my post is truly unbiased, right? It doesn’t work that way. The very idea that you consider the term feminist more insulting than narcissistic, when such insults can’t really be compared (none is “weaker” than the other”) only proves my point that some people feel unappreciated. I generally don’t have MORE bad things to say about Android users in general, as most of them are smart enough to know why they’re buying specific devices. Still, I have NO issue mentaining my statement when it comes to most Android users present on this particular site. And that’s not an opinion, that’s a fact.

41. VZWuser76

Did I say that? No, I didn't. But please feel free to go off in need rage because you disagree. I didn't say anything about being insulted by the term feminist. If anything, that seems to be how you feel, as you used it as a perfect statement about Android users. And no, I don't feel unappreciated. I really don't even know how that would apply here. What has anyone here done to deserve appreciation? Did they help you move? Saying an opinion is a fact doesn't make it a fact. If more people learned that, maybe the world wouldn't be the crapshow it is today.

Finally, that quote specifically mentiones that some Android users feel “underappreciated”. Arguably, iPhone users reasoning for trolling or insulting was never about them being the underdog and more about them feeling narcissistic.

1 billion percent right. The fandroids just can't get over the fact that there are people out there who enjoy iOS and love their iPhones. It's like their happiness is a curse for them. They think all the useless Android skin features need to be used by everyone and all of Androids flaws are acceptable and not a problem at all. Hypocrisy at its finest. They also hate the fact that no matter what, Apple just kills it in sales year after year. I don't like iOS anywhere near as much as Android, but it has its place in people's lives.
