RIM planning next generation version of the BlackBerry Storm
According to Reuters, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie said that his company is planning a next-generation version of the touchscreen BlackBerry Storm. "We see this large and untapped consumer market," Balsillie said during a meeting with investors and equity analysts. The exec says that RIM is positioning the BlackBerry as more than just a business tool and he claims that half of the 25 million subscribers to RIM devices would be categorized as non-corporate users. As far as the Storm is concerned, the device did get off to a stormy (pun intended) start but Balsallie claims that the first touchscreen BlackBerry has been a huge success in terms of revenue and that sales of the handset remain strong. He did allude to future versions of the Storm when he said that "We have next generation devices with that and the whole roadmap." RIM has expanded the reach of its devices to cover 475 carriers and distribution partners in 160 countries.
