Poll results: here are our readers' favorite smartphone, tablet, and gadget of CES 2014

If there was any doubt that Sony Xperia Z1 Compact was the coolest smartphone of CES 2014, that should be all gone now after our recent post. For those who missed it, last week we asked our readers to vote for their favorite smartphone, tablet, and gadget of CES 2014, and today it is time to take a look at the results in detail.

So yeah, the Z1 Compact takes the top spot in the smartphone category after collecting over 50% of the votes. It is leading by a wide margin ahead of the Sony Xperia Z1S, which was voted for by about 15% of those who participated. The Asus ZenFone series and the Asus PadFone X got some love as well, receiving about 7% and 5% of the votes respectively. We must highlight the fact that 52 of the people who cast their vote didn't really like any of the phones on the list, which suggests that the smartphones shown off at CES 2014 weren't really all that exciting. 

Next up we have the tablet category, and to no surprise, it is Samsung's tablets leading the charts. Over a third of the votes in our poll were for the Samsung Galaxy TabPRO series, and the Samsung Galaxy NotePRO got another 25% of the votes. The Asus Transformer Pad Duet also deserves to be mentioned after being voted for by almost 12% of those who participated.

And last but not least we have the gadgets and gizmos of CES 2014 – there was no shortage of them, as anyone who attended the show would agree. The one that truly grabbed our readers' attention appears to be the Sony Core smartband, which is built to keep track of not just the user's fitness regime, but their entire life. Pebble's Steel smartwatch takes the second place and the Intel Edison SD-card-sized computer is third. Again, a significant fraction of our readers weren't very impressed with the selection of gadgets demonstrated at the show, judging by the poll results. Oh well, let us hope that next year's CES will be more exciting.
