Poll results: Would you buy an expensive limited edition phone like the Porsche Design Mate 9?

We asked you last week if you are willing to pay a premium for exclusive versions of popular handsets, and the answer was a resounding "Nope." Word to the wise.

Last week, the Chief Operations Officer of Porsche Design took the stage during the Huawei Mate 9 announcement, to present a limited edition of the phablet with an exclusive design. The unique Mate 9 version crafted in cooperation with the Germans has a 5.5" QHD display, curved symmetrically towards the sides, and is made of glass and metal. It is also quite the upgrade in terms of memory, as it sports 6 GB of RAM against the Mate 9's 4 GB, and 256 GB of storage from the box.

The exclusive handset, however, will cost EUR 1395 when it lands, which translates to about $1550. This is twice the regular Mate 9's pricing, but very similar to, say, the Porsche Design BlackBerry, or to Samsung's special edition flagships like the Galaxy S7 edge Batman-themed Injustice Edition. Needless to say, we all want to be different and unique, and some even have money to do it, so there is some market out there for such limited series devices, but it is not large by any measure.

Would you buy an expensive limited edition phone like the Porsche Design Mate 9?

Actually, 21% is impressive result for such expensive device. It is not produced as mass device. Even the half of this percentage to buy it is enough. Good one.

With that pointless subtle curve screen that will create even more glare and distortion than the s7 edge, and with the rediculously huge pompous front logo and price, how bout hell to the NO!!

If they dropped the price a bit, and worked on their extremely camera slow focus and shutter speed, especially indoors, then yes, I might be tempted to buy it.

For that much money it should be dual bootable and come with root permission.

Only if it comes with a real Porsche multiday rental. That would be cool. Otherwise no deal.

I guess I'm the lonely yes voter here. No review yet so I can't pit it to the iphone 7 256gb yet.

Even though I can afford it, won't waste a cent on this overpriced garbage. I value uses of my tools, branding is useless.

Porsche design does not design or build Porsche cars. They design watches, sunglasses, smartphones, clothing, etc. http://www.porsche-design.com/en/europe/
