Opera Max for Android gets discontinued and removed from the Google Play

Sad news for Opera fans, as the Norwegian developer announced one of its popular Android applications will be discontinued, Opera Max. Originally launched back in 2014, the application was meant to allow users to manage and reduce data usage on Android smartphones.

For whatever reasons, Opera has decided to discontinue the Android app and remove from the Google Play effective immediately. Apparently, the developer wants to focus on other services and stop pouring any resources into Opera Max's development.

Those who still have Opera Max installed on their devices shouldn't expect any new updates in the future. However, Android users will be able to continue to take advantage of what Opera Max has to offer until the developer will pull the plug on the service.

Furthermore, Opera Max users will be announced about the termination of server-side support when the developer decides it's time to call it quits for good.

Why exactly? If you didn't this app, you didn't have to use it. How is the removal of this app from the Play Store good news to you?

It's good news to me because it means one less bloatware pre-installed on my device.

It comes pre-installed with Samsung but I would still ask what phone are you using? But good riddance indeed.

You're probably thinking about Opera browser which is a totally different app.

An update to Opera browser would be great, been like 2 or 3 months since there was one.

I did try this app when it was launched and it drained a lot of battery.

Sad to see Opera reduced to this. I really liked Opera on my S60 3rd Edition handsets, back in the day.

Opera Max is not Opera Mini. I use Opera Mini does give me a great mobile browsing experience especially with Facebook navigation. Facebook app has always been a drain on Battery regardless on the type of phones.
