New HTC Bolt photos reveal a metal design, no 3.5mm audio jack in sight
Not long after announcing the HTC Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle, HTC is now almost ready to unveil another mid-range smartphone: the HTC Bolt (codenamed Acadia). We've already seen a render of the HTC Bolt, and, today, thanks to Venture Beat, we can take a look at some new photos showing the handset in the wild.

The HTC Bolt kind of looks like the HTC 10 flagship, thanks to an all-metal design and a fingerprint scanner found on the front. However, the Bolt is slightly larger than the HTC 10, as it sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Another important thing to note is that the HTC Bolt does not have a 3.5mm headset jack, likely becoming HTC's first modern handset to ditch the widely used audio port. You'll have to get a pair of USB Type-C headsets to listen to music on the Bolt. With the Motorola Moto Z and the Apple iPhone 7 also coming without standard 3.5mm jacks this year, this may quickly become a trend in the smartphone world.

The HTC Bolt should run Android Nougat with Sense 8.0 UI, further featuring 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of expandable storage space, and HTC BoomSound (though this will seemingly work only with headphones). There is no word on what processor is powering the new phone.

It's said that the HTC Bolt will be released later this month in the US (via Sprint), as well as in many markets across the globe. Pricing details are currently missing.

Do you think you'll be interested in buying HTC's first modern phone to lack a 3.5mm audio jack?

Why would HTC make a 5.5in phone and not have it be 2560x1440 as well as 3gb of ram????? And they wonder why nobody buys HTC phones anymore.....smh....definitely not flagship quality.......

Tell that to OnePlus, heck, with the abysmal number of phones they're selling. /s

I assume they'll want this to be more affordable than the HTC 10. Plus, 1080p is not that bad and should lead to longer battery life.

A 1080p screen will also lead to less lag.

Not sure about that, but u might be wrong there. Speed tests b/w a 1440p note 7 and a 720p one have shown no or negligible difference in performance. So lag must be same on a particular device too, even though more pixels need to be rendered.

It's not about performance at lower res, it's about battery life. Besides that, I've mentioned it before but I have a 27" QHD monitor and sit about 18-24 inches away from it, maybe less. At that distance, I cannot make out individual pixels. Why on earth does a 5.5" screen need to have QHD when a screen 5x larger doesn't show individual pixels at that distance. Pointless, except for those that caress spec sheets for a good time.

I'm guessing you are defending 1080p on a 5.5" because the iPhone has that. Pretty sure once the Iphones have 2k screens in 8 years time you will talk about how that is the standard all phones should have

HTC makes some of the fugly phones out there with humongous bezels. The last flagship worthy design was One M7 way back in 2013. That thing was a stunner.

Agreed on the M7, that thing was a beauty. They screwed it up by moving to a plastic material for the M8.

They used more metal on the m8.

After seeing how OPPO implemented antenna slots this band thing is inexcusable.

HTC is being courageous! This new trend will be contagious. Thus manufacturers of adapters will find this advantageous ;)

Htc was the maker of beautiful phones back then while Samsung was creating the ugliest ones. Now, Samsung got the most beautiful one which is Note 7, while HTC keeps on releasing some of the ugliest devices

htc phones aren't bad but real problem is pricing. please dont compare htc to apple. If someone likes ios then there is nothing but iphones to go for but in android world of increasing competetion we have oneplus3, alcatel idols, honors and even samsung to choose. I think htc phones should be class leading not necessarily in every department but at least in some more importantly in some vital areas like camera, battery, price. Still hoping that htc will get all their glory.

I would fire all HTC design team, if I was the CEO. They really lost their minds and have no clue how to come up with a nice design to put all other phones in shame. I am sorry, but HTC is going down and this downfall is unstoppable.
