Motorola mistakenly emailed XOOM owners about the LTE update

Motorola mistakenly emailed XOOM owners about the LTE update
Whoops! We reported yesterday that Motorola XOOM owners were receiving emails about the impending availability of the 4G LTE upgrade. But, according to correspondence between Motorola and Droid Life, those emails were sent in error.

Motorola Mobility:

"A very small number of Motorola XOOM users recently received an email from Motorola regarding the 4G LTE upgrade process.  While we are very excited about being able to offer the upgrade this summer, and know our customers are equally excited about the benefits that 4G LTE speeds will bring to their Motorola XOOM, the email was sent in error.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and look forward to being able to share more specifics on how — and when — users can take advantage of 4G LTE on their Motorola XOOM in the near future."

If that email had only reached "a very small number" of customers, it wouldn't be such a disappointment. But we, and others, published the news to the larger XOOM population. So we apologize for getting your hopes up. The statement still indicates that the upgrade will come this summer, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

I talked to a lady at best buy yesterday and she said the word she got was that they'll be rolling out the upgrades in 300 customer batches starting on the 16th. Conversely, I was happy to see that the XOOM now has its own endcao with a nice sized sign at Best Buy. Mow maybe sales will accelerate.

big factor thats going to come into play though is how trained these big box retailers are on the product. lets be honest anyone in sales is going to sell what THEY know and love cause thats what they are most familiar with and confident selling. The following sentence is in no way a attempt to knock on iOS so please no stupid fanboy comments. With iPod Touches and iPhones already having such a huge presence in our daily lives a good chunk of sales employees probably have them and already have their basic sales pitch together cause they have their own little list of apps and features that they like and know how to effectively demo. If Motorola and Verizon dont step up and take a big initiative to train and offer incentives for retail employees then simply put their products will remain on the shelfs untouched.

I'lldrink to that. The first time I stopped in a Best Buy after the XOOM was released the rep in the computer department was some douchey punk kid who loved Apple. When I asked why the XOOM wasn't more prominently displayed he responded with a smarmy "Because people aren't lining up around the block for the XOOM." I said "no duh, because nobody knows it's here or what it is."I. That kind of set him back a bit, even more when I displayed more comprehensive knowledge of the product than him.

Perception can be more powerful than fact. Especially to the generally dumbed down society we're evolving into.

i love peoples ignorance sometimes and that comment about people buying it had it been properly displayed would have been something i might have said haha. Good help is hard to find these days. There is something satisfying about educating and putting some of these cocky sales kids back in their place though :)

Apple sure knows how to market and brainwash people into buying and loving their products. I will hand it to them for that. There seems to be too many android phones coming out to truely market just one. That's not a bad thing, I know all about the next big android phone way before it even comes out. But the casual person does not and they have no idea what a "1ghz" processor is nor do they care. They just want something they see on tv and all their friends have.

I was already over the Galaxy S2 when they decided to not include a 4G radio. If that changes then Ill look at it again as a phone possibility. It is a beautiful phone though with incredible specs.
