Microsoft will announce new Windows 10 devices at IFA 2015, but the word "smartphone" is strangely missing

Microsoft will announce new Windows 10 devices at IFA 2015, but the word
It looks like the annual IFA conference in Berlin will become a launchpad for the first Windows 10 devices announced by Microsoft. The company announced via a press release that Nick Parker, VP of MS's OEM (original equipment manufacturer) division, will hold a keynote titled "Windows 10 Lights up New Devices" where we naturally expect to get new W10 device announcements!

So, does this mean we'll catch a first glimpse of the new Lumia phones that are inevitably looming on the horizon? There's a good chance we will, but Mr. Parker isn't affiliated with Microsoft's smartphone division, so we don't expect new phones with 100% certainty. He doesn't handle Surface tablets either, so announcements on that part aren't guaranteed either. But seeing that device convergence plays such a big role in Windows 10, we're not keen on thinking all Microsoft has to show off at IFA is a bunch of laptops.

And besides, the press release clearly mentions "a breadth of new Windows 10 devices, including tablets, 2-in-1s, premium notebooks, gaming devices and all-in-ones" will be getting stage time. Only Microsoft and its partners know what's inside their collective bag of technological surprises.

The MS keynote is scheduled for September 4, 3PM CET. We will be there to hear what Nick Parker has to say in person, and hopefully, the rumored Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL handsets will be part of the program.

Wtf is taking them so long to bring out another great smartphone or phones? The last great one was the 1520 and that was years ago. I guess I'll buy one in like 6 months when it goes on sale.:)

One and a half years is not technically "years"

Be live it or not, when it comes to smartphones 1 year and 9 months is like 7 years.

Of course there won't be smartphones, such as the new Lumia devices. This guy is the head of the OEM division. He's just showing off what partners are making, not themselves.

I didn't expect them to talk about phones due in part to Nick Parker's job description, but I feel they are showing up late to the party with their offerings. The heavy hitters will have their devices out before Windows 10 phones. I am excited about them, but unless they do some serious marketing, it isn't going to fare well.

It took them nearly 2 years to release a flagship that will have 9 months old specs except camera. They will overprice it like they always did. And yet they're still hoping to gain market share. I'm not Windows hater. Actually I'd love to see they will gain more and more market share. I'm just disappointed seeing the way Microsoft handle their mobile division.

Nope PA. It is the Microsoft(Nokia) 105 with Windows 10 :P. It would be awesome if Microsoft reveal its Flagship Windows 10 Laptop (Should be the one shown in Windows 10 Promo videos)

Hmm, perhaps we should consider the term "all-in-one" as a pitch of the new direction of smartphones from Microsoft? Doesn't sound like a stretch to me.

Sounds like a Windows 10 pre school sales event for Microsoft OEM partners to let the World know Windows 10 devices are available for sale
