Microsoft schedules October 6th media event, expect to see the Lumia 950, 950 XL, and Surface Pro 4

Microsoft has just started sending out invites for a media event scheduled on October 6th. Although the invite does not mention any specific Windows 10 devices, Microsoft is expected to unveil a couple of new Lumia smartphones as well as the Surface Pro 4.

In the past months, the Lumia 950 "Talkman" and the Lumia 950 XL"Cityman" have often surfaced online in either leaked renders, and numerous official reports shared insight on the specs of the phones. Unless Microsoft comes with big, unlikely surprises, these will be the specs for the first Windows 10 Mobile Lumias:

The Lumia 950 "Talkman" will likely come with a 5.2-inch display running a resolution of 1440 by 2560 pixels (QHD), and will be based on the hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 with 3GB of RAM. The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL "Cityman" will likely be a 5.7-inch phablet with a QHD display. Under the hood, the phone is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, a powerful mobile SoC that has been criticized in the past for its poor thermal efficiency in some implementations. Paired with 3GB of RAM, the Snapdragon 810 should offer a lot of processing power.

The two new Lumias are also said to come with major camera updates. The word around the web is that the phones will come with 20MP PureView cameras with a sensor size of 1/2.5", 1.12┬Ám pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, OIS, and 4K video capture capabilities. Talk about a tricked out camera...

Although the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL will likely be the stars of the event, the company is also expected to introduce the Surface Pro 4. According to rumors, the new tablet will maintain the design and the form factor of its predecessor, but will bring updated internals and will run Windows 10 out of the box. The Surface Pro 3 is apparently the most popular 2-in-1 device in the niche's short history, and it would make a lot of sense for Microsoft to build on its previous success. Some sources suggested that Microsoft is also considering the launch of a Surface Pro 4 version with a larger display, but we'd file this one in the "wait and see" folder.

Microsoft's Windows 10 event on October 6th will be crucial for the future of the company. Are you guys excited to see the new Windows 10 devices?

Surface Pro 4 looks sweet. WP10 and their phones can suck it.

Unless they are announcing a next gen 1020 with a refresh to the amazing 41mp pureview sensor than I am totally not interested.

I'm hoping that the rumored dimensions of the 950XL are wrong. That phone is too wide considering the excellent ability of Motorola and Samsung to squeeze in 5.7" screens with little excess. Hopefully these phones perform. If not, it's likely the end of my relationship with Windows Mobile for a few years as I move to Android.

i wouldn't recommendt that. I switched from WP to Android and switched back to WP because Android felt way to slow

I am eagerly anticipating this event to learn what Microsoft has in store for us concerning Windows 10 for Mobile. And the Surface Pro 4 is definitely something I am looking forward to. Bring us some powerful Windows flagships, Microsoft. We need all the diversity in the smartphone space that we can get.

It's either the Lumia 950/950XL or the LG G4 for me. Only way I end up not getting a Windows Phone is if T-Mobile and Microsoft didn't come to some kind of agreement to carry either one of these phones. I'd choose the LG G4 over any other phone available right now simply because with its manual camera options it's the perfect photographer's camera.

Waiting for LG G4 Pro and anxious to see 950/950XL... but camera sensor is just 1/2.5, which is pretty small. I am bit suspicious that it will be able to out perform LG G4 Pro or not?... PA is reporting original pixel size of 1.12um. I want to know what will be the size of pureview pixel?

You know that is the camera specs of last Gen so i expect well a little improvement. Pureview(well on these phones) can take oversampled 5mp with bigger sized pixels don't know how much bigger. And i think the smaller the sensor size is in number means it have a bigger sensor example iPhone is 1/3 1020 is 1/1.5

lolz... how smaller number is bigger sensor??? smaller number is smaller sensor and bigger number is bigger sensor... like ip 1/3 is a smaller number and smaller sensor... 1020 1/1.5 is a bigger number and bigger sensor... 1/2.5 is also small because Sony already released 1/2.3 size sensor in 21mp pixel

Surface Pro 4, please come with at least a Thunderbolt 3 port. My Surface Pro 2 is ready to be sold for such upgrade. Otherwise, still really loving my Surface Pro 2 and wouldn't have a reason to upgrade. Right now as I'm going through 2 months of technical training for my job (Power Lineman), my Surface Pro 2 is perfectly serving as my Laptop + Tablet + ENTIRE Binder & Text Books (1000s of pages worth of printing and paper-logging requirements eliminated, based on what I see colleagues carrying, even with their toyPads :P).

Thunderbolt is kind of Apple only thing and have well lesser compatible things I prefer a USB 3.1 type C with Is well fast enough(the speed is worth less when your devices can't even come close to it i don't think if many devices support speed of even 10GbitsS). So While it's good to have it's not really they important.

Someone doesn't know that Thunderbolt 3 is USB 3.1 Type C + Thunderbolt 2... Thunderbolt will give the Surface Pro the ability to replace high-end Desktops with external graphics card when docked.

I'm also goddamn excited for Surface Pro 4. If Surface Pro 4 disappoints me, I'll go with Surface Pro 3 i5 128 GB! I'm really looking forward to 950! If it's good looking, I may get one! If not, I may get Moto X Play; :D
