Microsoft Surface Pro 4 said to launch October with Intel Skylake chips and Windows 10 on board

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 said to launch October with Intel Skylake chips and Windows 10 on board
A fresh report from Digitimes, quoting the usual unnamed industry insider sources, says that Microsoft has notified its upstream supply chain to start shipping components for the upcoming Surface Pro 4 in September. The report then moves on to note that the tablet should hit the market in October.

The same report also claims that Microsoft Surface Pro 3 shipment levels reached about 300,000 units per month following its launch. With the upcoming Surface Pro 4, Microsoft is allegedly estimating that monthly shipments could reach up to 500,000 - 600,000 units per month.

According to the report, Microsoft doesn't plan on changing a recipe that proved to be successful, as the upcoming tablet is said to maintain the thin form factor and the large display available on the Surface Pro 3. To bring the tablet up to 2015 standards, however, the report claims that Microsoft will integrate Intel's upcoming Skylake processors (probably Core i3, i5, and i7 models just like on the Surface Pro 3, but faster and more energy-efficient). As expected, the Surface Pro 4 is said to arrive with Windows 10 on board.

Microsoft's original laptop replacement, the Surface Pro 3, seemed to hit sweet spot for 2-in-1 devices, integrating serious laptop-class performance, a fully-fledged operating system, and a thin, portable form factor. If this rumor is to be believed, Microsoft has high expectations from the upcoming Surface Pro 4, but it remains to be seen if the tablet will be twice as popular as its predecessor, as Microsoft allegedly expects it to be.

Lovely! I finally am just waiting for this. Digital drawing with the digitizer pen. Same price range as the Mac Airs, but the Surface Pro can do more.

No mention of screen resolution.

I'm hoping they stick with 2160 x 1440. The display is really nice and doesn't come at the cost of poor battery life.

Would be awesome if they used Samsung's Super AMOLED displays. They could put in a better display with higher resolution at no cost to battery-life. 2560x1600 on the Surface would look gorgeous as it does on my Note Pro.

Microsoft should come up with a keyboard dock that can provide extra battery and hardware storage in it. My ideal shape would be 10mm thick if the tablet around 9mm. With 250+ GB mechanic or solid ssd will be good. and extra 15 hours battery. Most of all, microsoft should put the type cover and pen with tablet into the package for same price we've seen for single tablet. and leave the keyboard dock for the customer choice. This way, the world is yours microsoft!

No,not like that. not a cover. I mean keyboard dock like the Lenovo miix 11 has. that can hold the tablet stand without the kickstand. that way it really can work on your lap or anywhere else that only give you possibilities to place the dock and controll the two.

I have the Lenovo lynx and have used the dock. Good stuff. To me as long as it works I don't care. I like the cover more than the dock for what I use it for.

Microsoft should make at least one version with Core M/Yxxxx processor. I am interested in surface but decision to buy will depend on battery life.

I thought they would of gone Core M as well due too their extremely low power consumption compared to the Core i processors. They then could make the new Surface thinner, lighter and improve battery life. I guess we will have to wait and see how efficient the new Skylake processors are.

core m is 5th generation processor, maybe they will use successor of core m in sp4

Surface Pro's are the best tablets on the market, it kills all Amdroid or Apple tablets!

and it can kill the android/ apple laptops.

wouldnt go that far. It kinda too big and awkward to use as an ipad replacement and not good enough to compete with a full laptop because its hard to use on your lap. The keyboard/trackpad cant really compete either.

Posts: 2817; Member since: Oct 03, 2012

Spec/Software wise it kills all Adroid/Apple tablets and you can use it as a small PC!

I have no problem with that trackpad or keyboard and I have pretty wide man-hands. Don't know why so many think it's inadequate.
