Metal-made Huawei GX8 officially launches in the US
Huawei this week officially started selling its GX8 smartphone in the US, about a month after it announced that it would bring the handset stateside.

The GX8 is a US-tailored variant of the Huawei G8 / G7 Plus, which was released several months back in other parts of the world. The smartphone has dual SIM support, and is compatible with the LTE networks of AT&T and T-Mobile, while Verizon and Sprint customers will not be able to use it.

Huawei says that 90% of the GX8 is made out of metal. The device looks pretty good, but it's nothing more than a mid-ranger, being powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, and sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Also on board are a 13 MP rear camera with OIS, fingerprint scanner, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory (expandable thanks to a microSD card slot), and Android 5.1 Lollipop (we assume/hope that an update to Marshmallow will be launched later this year). For a closer look at the new handset and its features, check out our Huawei GX8 hands-on.

The Huawei GX8 is sold via Amazon for $349.99, unlocked (US warranty included), and will also be available from GetHuawei.com. At the moment, only the gold and champagne color versions of the Huawei GX8 are in stock, with the grey one expected to arrive soon.

The GX8 is the second Android smartphone that Huawei is officially releasing this year in the US. The other one is the honor 5X (some customers may not know that this is made by Huawei, since it doesn't feature the company's logo, bearing just the honor brand). Do you plan to buy the Huawei GX8? Or maybe the honor 5X (which costs $199)? Let us know in the comments section.

Let me be the first to start off by saying that I love Huawei but this phone is the exact same phone as the honor 5x.

Huawei please help me understand whatbyouvare doing. Btw the 4g LTE they claim to be on the honor 5x is really hspa+.

Huawei please just release a flagship for sale in the States with true 4g LTE.

This phone is the exact same specd as the Honor 5x for almost double the price. The only thing I noticed different is a little more metal in the design. It's bad pricing, specially when you have the Motorola x Pure for $50 more .....

GX8 is dual sim or single sim and sd card. Honor 5x is dual sim AND sd card.
GX8 has ois. Honor 5x does not otherwise both are 13mp/5mp
GX8 looks to have a stock android experience. 5x is EMUI skinned os. Both based on 5.1.1.
Not seeing anything on this that would make me spend an extra $150 if I were choosing between this or the 5x. Actually, I just picked up one of the 5x's to replace the daughters iphone and the emui works out well for her because it is similar to ios.
