Logitech Solar Keyboard Folio for the new iPad can last two years on a full charge

Logitech Solar Keyboard Folio for the new iPad can last two years on a full charge
For those of you independent types that hate cables and long-term relationships, Logitech just outed its Solar Keyboard Folio for the new iPad, also working with the iPad 2. It serves as the tablet's case, cover, stand, Bluetooth keyboard, and a generic binder, as any self-respecting tablet folio does, but there's much more to it.

A solar-powered battery can be juiced by the sun or a lamp, indoor and out, for up to the astounding two years of happy typing on a full charge, based on 2 hours of action per day estimate, even in total darkness. Needless to say, the folio automatically wakes up the iPad when open, and locks it when closed.

To achieve the longevity, Logitech is using the power-sipping Bluetooth 3.0 standard, beaming keystrokes to the even more frugal Bluetooth 4.0 of the new iPad. Finally something interesting in the world of tablet accessories, which can be yours for $129.99 as we speak, if you hurry up and preorder on Logitech's site.

I love how you left the price for this keyboard towards the end. "Oh it's only $129.99. Pssssh, no big deal."

Lasting two years with a full charge is a big deal.

To be honest the fact that it's a folio case with a bluetooth keyboard, a battery, and a solar panel on it $129.99 is not bad. I spent more than that on headphones... never mind something like this. I think it's a great price.

But it does not charge the iPad! So it isn't good at all

What external iPad keyboard can? With the dock connector at the side, it would not be possible. The charge life of these keyboards are something like 6 months. I would sooner worry about just charging the iPad versus having to worry about my keyboard too.

Personally, I like this over the super thin keyboard that Logitech just released just because this solution offers full protection. I would be bulkier. Right now is supports two positions via the notches on the side. If they had more notches, it could provide more viewing angles. That is my only real criticism. With the nickle batteries, after 2 years, expect it being pretty dead. Mind you a lithium solution would probably be at 50% battery life also. Granted, in two years, you would have moved up the New New New iPad anyway ;)
