Leaked Sony poster confirms a Z5 Premium, Z5 and Z5 Compact

While we are waiting for Sony's event at the IFA expo in a short while, nobody could say for sure if the Xperia Z5 would indeed make a cameo so soon after the Z4/Z3+ release. Actually, we've been getting tangential leaks and benchmarks about not one, but three handsets that might be unveiled today. A leaked interview with a Sony rep even claimed there will be a Z5 Premium with a 4K display among them, along with a Z5 with 1080p display, and a Z5 Compact with a 4.6" 720p panel.

That's all fine and dandy, but all that we had so far is not a direct proof of the Z5 Premium existence, and that's the one we are most interested in. Until today, when a poster snapped in a carrier shop confirms Sony's upcoming trio of flagships, along with their naming schemes. The Z5 Premium is featured prominently here, and indeed seems the largest of the three, so we can't wait to hear Sony uttering the words 4K about its screen from the stage in about two hours or so.

It is also expected that we will have Snapdragon 810 on the trio, 3 GB of RAM (4 GB on the Prime), and Sony would outfit the three phones with a 20 MP+ camera with 0.1s autofocus, f/1.8 aperture, and phase detection autofocus, indicating the newest IMX230 sensor from Sony will be present. Stay tuned.

While 2K itself is not yet mainstream, why would they jump directly from FHD to 4K. Only reason I can think of it is, may be the Premium version s designed to support virtual reality. But it may be a huge strain on the battery.

They just need to bump the screen size to 6 inches and it will be a useful resolution.

Just tell me they included OIS in the Z5 along with a full suite of manual controls and that it's coming to T-Mobile and I will give Sony another shot. The Z3 was almost perfect for me but the lack of any real manual controls was a letdown after coming from the Lumia 1020. Also the back is matte now too. Can't wait.

No OIS for a high-end smartphone is deal-breaker for some people (including me)

I hope the UI isn't the one from the leaks, it looks terrible. Nonetheless, Z5 Premium is the one I'm waiting for.

I know, but it looks more terrible than the current one, especially on the bottom where your main apps will be.

4k, just why? It's just unnecessary. There is a huge dimishing return going to 4k. Some people can't even distingush between 2k and FHD. I doubt more than 5% will be able to distinguish 4k from 2k. And that comes at the expense of battery and frame rate, just brilliant. In economics, we call it "Diminishing Marginal Utility". It's a fact, not something I invented. The more of something you have, less marginal utility you derive from that. Just doesn't make any practical sense at all. If Apple can sell gazillion of phones with just FHD display, I am sure Sony could also sell enough with FHD panel too. Just make a better overall product. At this point I will call 4K a gimmick even in a tablet.

Remember Sony said last time 2k display is pointless on smartphone so they jump to 4k display instead. LoL

4K is gonna arrive to phones sooner or later anyways, let Sony have their glory and see what they done to the world's first smartphone with a 4K display. Hope it won't affect the battery life though.

I have used almost every premium flagship device in the last 3 years. IMO , i rate Z3 right on top. The phone is simply fantastic in almost all departments. Battery life is super stellar and performance is truly good. Only gripe was avg camera. I am a fan of Samsung Amoled displays. I am currently using the note 5 , before that was the S6. Have to say Z3 is my all best device till now. !!

This person obviously had a phone with them to take the picture, yet the shared picture is a screenshot - why do people do that?!
