Killer deal: get Spotify Premium for $0.99 a month for three months

Music streaming is quickly taking over traditional music downloads with Spotify leading the charge, and this latest killer deal will only accelerate the expansion of the company: you can now get three months of Spotify Premium for just a dollar a month for three months.

The hard-to-resist Spotify Premium deal, however, only applies for new subscribers and is valid only in the United States.

After making the headlines with pop singer Taylor Swift’s fierce critique of Spotify’s business, the company has defended its streaming model by unveiling more information about the sums it is paying to musicians.

Lastly, Spotify founder Daniel Ek revealed that the company is enjoying stable growth. The number of premium subscribers (who can enjoy ad-free music) has reached over 12.5 million, while non-premium users amount to over 50 million. The company makes the bulk of its proceedings from premium users.

poor artists - not that they earn more without the promotion, but yeah.

The idea is to get more people on Premium, so that they can pay after the 3-month promo is over, which should be good for the artists.

When I like a piece of music, I buy it from the artist directly. I don't think much of the money you pay Spotify actually goes to the artists.

Don't do it. Spotify adds spyware to make sure you don't have two people using the same account on different phones or tablets. I'd be OK with that except this spyware is constantly running in the battery tray. I loved Spotify until this update murdered my batteries across all of my tablets at the same time. So I switched to Google play music, which was great for a while until Google music added the same battery-killing spyware. So then I tried Beats but Beats just doesn't have the same sound quality as the others, and it doesn't have Google play music's amazing equalizer. Sigh. The era of good streaming services is over.
