In five seconds, the Xiaomi Mi3 sells out in India
It appears that the quick hit and run sales technique known as "hunger marketing," works in India. Xiaomi let the world know that it sold out an undisclosed number of Xiaomi Mi3 units in just five seconds on Flipkart. The latter is the top online retailer in the country. The technique employed by Xiaomi involves hyping a handset during a registration period, and then putting the phone up for sale online. Usually, the number of units involved is small enough to ensure a quick sellout.

Another "hunger marketing" sale of the Xiaomi Mi3 will take place in India on August 5th, starting at 2pm. Xiaomi is taking registrations from now through August 4th, through Flipkart, for the sale.

The Xiaomi Mi3, which has recently been surpassed as the manufacturer's flagship by the recently released (in China only for now) Xiaomi Mi4, offers a 5 inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution. A quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU are under the hood, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage inside. Back and front-facing cameras weigh in at 13MP and 2MP respectively, and a 3050mAh battery keeps the lights on. Android 4.4.2 is pre-installed.

Thanks for the tip, Jonathan!

This would be far more impressive if they actually had the number of units sold.

They will wait until tomorrow to release the actual number. So they can be in 2 news for 1 news.

I heard there were 10000 units. And just pressing the Buy button registered them, so it took only 5 seconds to hit Buy button.

aditya, FK ranks pretty high on Alexa rank: Couting down on pressing Buy is "safe bet" so that you don't end up with a crappy situation where you deal with counting down the number while transaction between payment gateway and FK is on.Agreed there would be some cart abandons, but the next guy pressing Buy would make it up. When buying an in-demand tem ilike this, people normally don't hit "continue shopping" and shoot straight to payment once added to cart, more so because buyers know about "Hunger marketing" technique of xiaomi

This is poor strategy from Xiomi and FlipKart as they managed to get 100k pre orders and they had only 10k phones to sell. After seconds FlipKart website crashed and so many users disappointed with this.

Not impressive, the Apple Galaxy Phone 5GS sold out (a krillion units) in 0.3 microseconds since they were raining. I shot a picture of it right here:

"F**k You, Xiaomi" - A Great Value for money phone isn't enough if you don't respect your customers. Pre-registering didn’t guarantee that user get mi 3. its just a chance to be able to participate in the sale. Only 20k unit for 250k participate users ? Your strategy to sold device in batches is fail for long time run. People now frustated. just see comments on Xiaomi India’s official Facebook page is enough to get an idea.

rocksy, that's Xiaomi way to say "NEXT TIME BE SERIOUS". If xiaomi (let say) provide 100K for 250K participant, and maybe just 100K buying it in (let say) 5 days, it won't make a headline. -- (because the first sale last 50 minute) So, in order they all know the game, xiaomi must release in small batch only, and will increase it for the next launch until they got some perfect balance. Did anyone here watch south park episode that Cartman buy an amusement park?
