Images of Microsoft's canceled Xbox-branded smartwatch leaked out

In some ways, Microsoft was ahead of its time, but the Redmond-based company did not always take the right decisions when it needed to. There are so many failed or canceled projects that Microsoft poured its resources into that we can't think of what the world would look like with all those products in it.

Microsoft ditched a few smartphones, tablets and even a smartwatch. We've already covered the first two, so let's talk about the so-called Xbox smartwatch since images of the wearable device have just leaked online.

Back in 2013, rumors emerged that Microsoft plans to launch a Xbox-branded smartwatch. After testing a few prototypes, Microsoft decided to shelve the project, but some of these unfinished products continue to exist.

Pictures of a Xbox-branded smartwatch prototype have just emerged and the first thing noticeable is that it's oddly similar to Apple's original Watch, which seems rather strange since the latter was launched on the market two years later.

According to the source that leaked these images, Microsoft's smartwatch comes with a magnetic Surface connector. The wearable device would have a 1.5-inch display, 6GB storage, and replaceable wristbands. Microsoft should have released the Xbox-branded smartwatch sometime in 2015, but that never happened.

Nah, MS is fond of building lots of prototypes to see how implementations are made. Remember they are making money on IP and software, so testing and making one out is pretty much what they are doing and inventing something to see what works and what not.

And both look like Sony Ericsson live view....https://www.androidheadlines.com/2010/09/se-liveview-bluetooth-android-1-3-inch-display.html So M$ didn't use a time capsule to go to the future to copy apples watch.

That is really cool, with those fitness tracking & with smartphone compatibility. This clearly shows how Sony Ericsson & MS were ahead in terms of technology.

Yes, but at the end Apple was the company to release and make the profit. And I'm not an Apple fan. Just facts. Apple didn't invent anything, but still - most profitable company in the world, or at least in top 3. The whole idea of iPhone with the support timeline, with app store etc. was genious. In business point of view. And despite the fact that i don't like Apple devices i must admit Steve Jobs genious business view.

Yeah, Apple got tons of fanbase and the American Dream to back it up. If they make something, they got almost everyone to applaud it. I'm in awe with Apple's marketing team. They can sell a simpleton and make it look like you-dont-need-this-but-we-make-sure-you-will-buy-it-at-much-higher-price kind of thing.

An Xbox smartwatch would be cool, for real.
