Facebook Messenger coming to Windows Phone

Facebook Messenger coming to Windows Phone
Today in Barcelona, Microsoft announced that Facebook Messenger would be joining the Windows Phone platform as a stand-along application.

Like its Android and iOS cousins, Facebook Messenger allows you to share messages with your Facebook friends without opening the dedicated Facebook app. It should also incorporate a number of other features that the app is able to do.

One thing we are not sure will be featured is the chat head function. We will not rule it out since it is usable on iOS. Also not known is if the app will enable free calls in the same way it can elsewhere. Either way, the benefit to a dedicated first-party app (that is, developed by Facebook), particularly Facebook, is that the app will get updated regularly.

This app has been one of the most requested items to join the Windows Phone platform. It is also certain to indicate that built-in Facebook messaging will no longer be integrated with the native messaging function of Windows Phone.

How this will impact the deep integration of Facebook with the Windows Phone platform as a whole is yet to be seen.

I can see that being possible.. Will it happen?... Who knows.. If I ever see Microsoft get really serious about pushing WP devices then I can say that I'm sure it will increase to 40% market share... Until then it's just slow, but steady growth,, which isn't bad at all...

Its not too bad.. They are continually improving it with updates, and new features, and that's always good.. Nevertheless, no OS is perfect...

We didn't have cuz we have built in Facebook messenger app and it was useless, that's why.

How was it useless?.. Messages flow in seamlessly as though they are regular text messages.. I use it all of the time.

I think he meant that a dedicated Facebook Messenger app would have been useless because it would have been redundant.

WP has FB messenger BUILT DIRECTLY INTO THE OS!... This is just a standalone app that Windows Phone 8.1 will take full advantage of.. Apps like this will have core access to the OS, and tie directly into multiple hubs in WP8.1.... Can you device do that? ...................... The whole point of separating apps like this, and XBM, is so that MS/Nokia can update them more frequently without having to wait to put new functionality in with a GDR, or major update.. ............... So, while you're trying to be negative about WP WP has actually show the upper hand in thinking about how to manage a OS, intuitiveness, and future device support for providing a great user experience..... Just admit it.. WP is better than your phone.

LMAO! Yup it can and so much more actually. You seem to be a complete ignorant to the Android experience. But anyway keep deluding yourself if it makes you feel better.

What you don't understand is that I completely could give a rats a$$ about what Android has to offer, whether it's better, or worse, than WP, or how much market share Android has compared to WP.. That's your retarded, insecure battle that you feel necessary to payout here on PA.... Now, what I don't understand is that if you really think WP sucks so bad then why don't you not give a rats a$$?... Because obviously you either do really like WP, are very interested in it, or are scared that it may improve so much to where you think that it's just as good, or even better than Android.. Those have to be the only three reasons why you constantly ridicule WP on every article... Choose one of those reasons and let us know why you're here!

'That's your retarded, insecure battle that you feel necessary to payout here on PA' really dude. you're the one always on the offensive against android fans. appreciate that you like wp but its you that feel the need to constantly defend wp even if there's nothing to argue about. i own a 520, btw (which rocks!) so i love wp too

Exactly! He feels the need to always praise WP in every article because he knows if he doesn't, no one would. Attacking whoever says something negative(yet true) about his beloved OS. Calling them names and so on. And now he's shifting his own insecurity in others.

This comment describes you more than me, just replace Android by WP and vice versa.. And LMAO to the insecure/envious part! Idk where you get your ideas but you sure live in a delusional world. But again, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. Haha

BTW.. I have a HTC Onex, and a iPhone 4s that I have to manage... I am in no way completely ignorant to what Android has to offer.. How could anyone be? IT'S EVERYWHERE!!!.. ...................... IQ?

I don't get how will WP going to compete with android... usability wise, android still better! simple function like usb otg is not even supported! And the UI is uniquely....weird. MSFT, usb otg is a needed addition! Not on screen navigation since it makes the phone real ugly imo! The very reason why I choose to use a Windows tablet than an android one because I need a real tablet PC!!!

Lol. Looks like someone is butthurt about my comments. Get over it, WP is inferior to Android and iOS and had no potential. Keep getting trolled; can do this all day :)

Sloe and steady wins the race. I I'm not saying Windows is going to take over Android and IOS. I think people will start taking the platform more seriously.

Okay... so we're not sure chat head will be available? Idk how it goes for other people, but Facebook Messenger app is useless to me if there is no chat head. -_-

Wp has facebook messenger integrated into the OS. When someone facebook messages (is that a word?) me I get it like any other standard text including the notification for it. My contacts even show these facebook messages by labeling them "facebook". This app is somewhat redundant. I cant add photos so I guess you can say that's a limitation but all in all not really necessary.
