Developer Preview version of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 is now available
Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 is now available, and for those who had installed the Developer Preview version of Windows Phone 8.1, all you need to do is look for an update on your phone. Those who have not signed up for the Developer Preview, can still access Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 by installing it through Microsoft's App Studio program. Two separate software versions are involved, 8.10.12400.899 and 8.10.14147.180, with the latter being the GDR1 update.

Among the new features is the Live Folders for the Start screen. This simply allows you to slide a tile over another tile, to create a folder. The update also allows those in India, Australia and Canada to use an alpha version of Cortana. China and the U.K. will have their own beta version of the personal assistant made available. With the update, you can merge multiple SMS messages together to forward or delete. And you will be able to customize your alarm's snooze settings.

If you're not signed up for the Developer Preview, and are not inclined to install the update via the App Studio program, eventually you will receive the update anyway. For those of you who managed to grab Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, you can tell us all about it by dropping your comments in the box below.
