BlackBerry London to be called the "Surfboard"?

BlackBerry London to be called the
We’ve been bringing you images of what may be the first BlackBerry phone to ship with their QNX-based operating system, so far known by its code name “London”. According to a recent report, RIM may be planning on naming the upcoming handset the BlackBerry Surfboard.

The name presumably refers to the phone's shape (touchscreen candybar) and its prowess at surfing the web – at least we assume at this point that it won’t make a good platform for riding gnarly waves towards shore.

RIM actually reserved the name “Surfboard” back in the summer of 2010, and renewed the name again last spring, so they’ve been holding it in their back pocket for quite some time. There will be a lot riding on the first phone that showcases their new operating system – many believe the future of the company rides on it – so does that make it the perfect time to bust out the name BlackBerry Surfboard?

Obviously names can and do change prior to launch, and with the better part of a year before the London is expected to come to market, a lot could happen. What do you think think about the name BlackBerry Surfboard?

Love it? Hate it? Just “meh”?

From what I've seen the phone LOOKS great, but the question is, is it as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. RIM needs this otherwise they might as well file bankruptcy now

I think "London" sounds more blackberry like.. but thats the exact reason why they shouldnt use it. I dont know about "surfboard" (slightly offended, i used to They do need to capture the younger non-business audience, so if the name is testing well with the iphone/android generation, then go for it.

Surfboard = epic failure for a name Then again, maybe it's not such a bad thing.. with that name if someone asks what phone you got and you said "surfboard" they are sure to say "WTF?! let me see that!" So maybe this is a new marketing strategy by RIM.. the more terrible the name, the more people will want to see what it is! Kind of like a car accident.. no matter how bad it is, you just have to look..

If they want to involve water in the name they should call it the "blackberry life raft." they need a rescue! In terms of software, apps, and brand recognition (for 16-35 ages), blackberry will still be too far behind Apple and Google. I love blackberry, long time user, but for the first time in 5 years I no longer carry a blackberry as of noon today. I really hope this helps them. My 2 cents, the name sucks. Blackberry Tide or blackberry Atlantis would be better.

I Think With The Fast Decline In RIM Stocks They Should Cut Their Losses And Go Into Liquidation (Or Go Bank Corupt Or Whatever You Want Too Call It), Then Apple Or Google Should Buy Them And Incorperate BBM Services To Either Android Or IOS (Depending If Apple Or Google Buy) And Make A Market Leading Clear Winner Smartphone That Everone Can Agree On ... Final Stopping Fanboy Arguements Lol :) (P.S. If You Own A Blackberry And Reffer To It As A Smartphone, You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself!)

If Two People Buy This Phone It Will Have Doubled RIM 2011 Sales ;)
