BlackBerry DTEK60 could arrive in Europe on October 25 for €600

It's just a matter of days until BlackBerry's DTEK60 is made available for purchase, and one thing that fans will should be happy about is the fact that the smartphone will be available worldwide.

Major retailers in Canada and the United States briefly enabled placeholders of the DTEK60, but since the smartphone is not official they can't accept pre-orders yet. But that could change as early as next week when the smartphone is expected to make its debut in Europe.

The biggest retailer in Germany, MediaMarkt has been confirmed to offer the BlackBerry DTEK60 beginning October 25. However, the handset won't come cheap, as the German retailer is likely to price it at €600 ($660).

In the United States, the DTEK60 was recently spotted with a much lower price tag attached to it, which is why we believe the European version is a bit overprice. B&H listed the BlackBerry DTEK60 at $500, but it's unclear whether or not this is the final retail price of the smartphone.

One other aspect that remains to be clarified in the coming days is if the DTEK60 will be available for purchase on October 25 or customers will only be able to pre-order the smartphone, which will arrive at a later date.

The DTEK60 might be the last BlackBerry-branded smartphone fans will be able to purchase this year, but more are expected to be released next year. Rumors about another handset codenamed Mercury have already made headlines, so we're convinced that more BlackBerry phones will be launched on the market in the coming months.

Exactly. It's that BB software and support that people need to focus on. They've done an admirable job on Android so far IMO.

Totally agree. BlackBerry has shown to have better software, and better support for their software, than some OEM's that have been making Android handsets for years.

I agree. The price might be a little high, but it does offer some benefit. My only concern is that it's not universally unlocked so that it can be used on all US carriers.

Will have to wait and see when it releases if it covers the CDMA bands necessary for voice calls on Verizon. But if the Dtek50 doesn't then my guess is neither will the 60.

It won't. BlackBerry stopped doing CDMA versions for their U.S. handsets after the PRIV because U.S. CDMA carriers don't support BlackBerry handsets much anymore. For example, the PRIV on Verizon is still on Lollipop and hasn't received the security updates for a while now, and Sprint stopped carrying BlackBerry handsets the Classic. Making a universally unlocked handsets also won't be beneficial to BlackBerry since CDMA carriers don't push out the updates to their current, carrier branded BlackBerry, so they will not support unbranded handsets with updates and full network features, much like what happens to unbranded universally unlocked handsets now, especially in terms of network features. Until that changes, BlackBerry is going to stick with GSM unlocked handsets, since it's the world standard and they can be used all over the world.

Can't BlackBerry just include the CDMA hardware and bypass Verizon for updates? Isn't that what Google is doing with the Pixel and Pixel XL?

17. meanestgenius

Posts: 22098; Member since: May 28, 2014

Still wouldn't be able to support full network features. Verizon is notorious for blocking those to unbranded phones, and they don't support their own Verizon branded BlackBerry handsets as it is. Also, with BlackBerry using other OEM's hardware and just supplying the software for it, it's impossible to do that now.

19. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Exactly. The point I am trying to make, the one that keeps going over the super fan's big head, is to add the CDMA radios for CDMA carriers. BlackBerry would reach more customers, possibly, and the consumer would have a device they can use on ANY network. Verizon is just a sh--ty carrier in general. They want you to use their bloat heavy phones.

BlackBerry no longer makes or designs their own handsets, so how would they do that, exactly? If you weren't such an ignorant super-troll so dead set against any opinion other than your own ignorant opinion, and completely against anything that I have to say, even when it's true, you'd see this. And what good is having a handset with CDMA radios if it can't take advantage of full network features? (Referring to universally unlocked handsets, as CDMA carriers DO NOT support BlackBerry handsets, whether you care to admit it or not).

23. Mxyzptlk unregistered

I should have known you would be attacking just because I said something you disagree with. You're the only one who is dead set against any opinion other than your own. Get over it. You're still so blind you can't even see the motherf-ing point. Universally unlocked is no different than GSM unlocked. Get over it and stop trying to whine about everything.

I should have known that you'd take potshots at me (and you did, you made references to what I posted in previous comment) simply because I said something that you don't agree with and would then play the cowardly victim role once I confronted you directly. Be a man for once and own up to your BS, coward. You're so dead set against anything that I say that if I said water is wet and fire burns you'd say the opposite. You're such an ignorant idiot that the point that I'm making is sailing right past your dumb@$$. And yes, universally unlocked and GSM unlocked are different, since GSM unlocked handsets don't have the dying CDMA radios, idiot. Get over your crusade for universally unlocked and get over yourself and your trolling, whether it's of OEM's you don't like, or just me, and quit btching and moaning about a phone that doesn't have the radios of a dying technology and everyone else that you don't agree with.

31. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Don't insult my f-bleep-ing intelligence. You were referring to my comment, hence why I was using my so called “potshot.” For the record, get real, keyboard warrior. You're saying you confronted me as if you said it directly to my face, but we all know you lack the courage to do so. The only coward here is yourself. You would do nothing but bore me to death with your bullcrap. Funny, I could say the same thing about you with how aggressive you get when it comes to anything BlackBerry related. But then again, you would know wouldn't you, alphageek. First of all you moron, CDMA isn't dead. It's still alive in the US and in some countries around the world, to which you've changed your tune about. They aren't really different at all so get the f-bleep- over it. Aka, stop giving my opinion because meanest is going to wet her panties just because the mean old Mxy said something she doesn't like. Get over it. I say whatever is on my mind. I don't give a crap about you and your hissy fit. Get over it. CDMA isn't a dying technology you asinine twit. Until Apple stops making iPhones with CDMA radios, CDMA will still be alive. Fact. Checkmate b-bleep-

You don't have any intelligence to insult, idiot. And you took your potshots at me first. Stop being such a coward and own up to your trolling BS for once. And hell yes I'd say it to your face, but you don't want that, you'd rather hide behind mommy and daddy's computer, so cut the tough guy BS. We both know that you're not one. Pot meet kettle JakeLee, especially when it comes to how seething with anger you get when you get called out for your incessant trolling, or when someone says something about Apple that gets your brown stained tighty whities in a bunch. CDMA is a DYING technology. The sooner your dumb@$$ excepts that, that sooner you can stop spammmig BlackBerry articles with your universally unlocked spiel. And they are different, so just accept it and move the fck on. The pot meets the kettle again with this part of your BS response. You really need to get over your sick infatuation of disagreeing with everything I post just because I'm the one that posts it. CDMA is a DYING technology, and it doesn't make a difference if your god Apple continues to make the radios for it or not, it still won't change that fact that it's a DYING technology that's going the way of the dinosaur. #FACT. I just checkmated your BS checkmate.

37. Mxyzptlk unregistered

No you wouldn't. You would just chicken out and cower in fear like you always do. You don't have the gall to say it to my face. You're the one who is being paranoid just like you are in the exploding Samsung article. Get over it. First of all, you're alphageek, alphanerd digitaljedi, etc. You're seething in anger from your constant fighting the good fight as said by yourself. It's not dead, numbnuts. Get the fck over it. You're the only one who has a problem with universally unlocked phones and it's hilarious watching you try and make comments against it. You're the one who has a problem with anything that clashes with your comment. As long as your dumb@$$ continue to fight the good fight, I will continue putting you in your place. The only fact here is that CDMA isn't dead. #ProvenFACT I just checkmated your BS again.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! Dude, get real. You don't want to go that route with me. Everyone here knows that you're a punk@$$ internet warrior. You're a coward, and it's evident by you being too afraid to own up to when you take potshots. Man up for once in your life, coward. JakeLee, you can claim I'm someone else until you're blue in that pimply red face of yours, it still won't make any more true, nor will it change the fact that you're the biggest troll on this site that constantly mimics and stalks me, as well as always having a sever case of bumburn because I called you out on your faux accounts. CDMA is DYING, fckboy. Get over it. And get over the fact that GSM unlocked is the WORLD STANDARD, and no amount of spamming against it from you will change that. Everyone here knows that you base your comments off of what I say. If I suddenly started spamming BlackBerry, Samsung, LG and Google articles with incessant trolling like you do and shoved an iPhone up my @$$ like you to prove my loyalty to Apple, you'd be against Apple, join the Android Army, and become BlackBerry's biggest fan, so cut the BS. And cut your BS trolling and spamming about universally unlocked phones, especially since CDMA is DYING. #FACTS. You just proved that you mimic me with the last sentence of your BS comment. Lmao! You want to be me so bad that it's pathetic. #BOOOOOOMwenttheDYNAMITE #MeanestGeniusJustOwnedMxyzbtchAgain #TheForkHasBeenStuckInYou Now watch you mimic me again. Pathetic.

I don't want to go that route you say. Lol, you're an even bigger keyboard warrior than I imagined. You're a wannabe tough guy who wouldn't do jack squat but cower. You're the one who needs to get real. I don't have to claim. You are alphageek. You said so yourself Mr. Other Aliases. http://utbblogs.com/the-tide-turning-americans-want-a-blackberry-passport/#comment-6840 Said so right above. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-iOS-9.3.2-update-lands-with-a-sprinkling-of-bugfixes_id81146/comments/page/2 Here you claim not to know your own alias, yet it contradicts my next link: http://utbblogs.com/utb-blogcast-62/ Now you say you “know” meanest and was actually banned from PA even though you just said in my first link you used another alias, aka meanest. And for bonus points, here's the YouTube link for your blogcast, alpha: https://youtu.be/eN626TNmWI4 I don't give a crap what the world standard is. The US and a few others are still using CDMA, as said So by yourself. Amazing how you change your point to reflect against something I say. Lol, are you reading the crap you put out? Are you high on drugs or something? I don't think you would be able to shove an iPhone in your rear. Looks like you already have a few BlackBerry devices and Chen stuck there already. In case you weren't aware, I'm already part of “Team Android.” I just don't use one platform. Why don't you stop being paranoid thinking I'm always against you. Not my fault if you refuse to see the truth about universally unlocked phones. CDMA isn't dead. That is a proven fact. What's pathetic is you living in your delusions that someone wants to mimic you. #YouWish #AlphageekOwnedNoone #AsinineTwit No one wants to mimic you, twit.

Lmao! Still playing the tough guy when we both know that you can't even do something as simple as own up to when you take potshots? Lmao! You're a JOKE. But you know what? Talk is cheap, dudette. That's YOU, by the way. As I've said before, you can say I'm Alphageek until you're blue in your pimply-red face, it still won't make it come true, especially since Alpha himself already proved you wrong in one of the links that you provided. Here's a refresher, just in case your ADD is kicking in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN626TNmWI4&feature=youtu.be Did you look at the dates between those next two links that you posted? See how far apart they are? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha!!! Only an moron like you would be stupid enough to think that it's too much trouble to reach out to someone on a public blogcast between those times and ask him to set the record straight. You're a complete idiot! You really are dumber than dirt with less judgement than jelly! You're STILL bumburned over the fact that you were exposed about creating faux accounts of others like techie, Scottie, me and even yourself, in a pitiful attempt to try to get people to feel sorry for you. Not only that, but you're really JakeLee and you admitted to trolling because of "monkey see, monkey do" reasoning, and have been trying to say that you don't troll ever since. I don't give 2 shts about you not giving a crap about world standards. What you think or care about is as irrelevant to me as a fart passing by on a cool, summer breeze. I'm talking about the WORLD, and the U.S. isn't the entire world last time I checked. I know that's a hard concept for you to grasp since you dropped out of school at the tender age of 4, but try and stay with me. I don't give a sht about what other platform you claim to be a part of. NO ONE believes that BS but you, especially since you flip-flop between saying that you have a Moto X Pure and a Nexus P more than your uncle trump does about his stance on race relations. Cut the BS. Everyone here knows that you follow me around PA just to say the opposite of what I say. One of your troll buddies even called you out by admitting as much in this article: http://www.phonearena.com/news/BlackBerry-DTEK60-up-for-pre-order-for-699.99-CAD-unofficially_id86056/comments/page/6 Comment #177 from the article. Here's a part of it for your reading pleasure: "From a quick glance it looks that Meanestgenius posted about 70 comments and mxyzptlk posted 41. So out of 176 comments 111 were posted between them two. One has a mission to defend BlackBerry to the end and the other just follows him around to say the contrary." I keep forgetting that reading isn't your strong suit, so perhaps you should get your parents to read it to you under that bridge where you all live. To be continued:
