BlackBerry DTEK50 joins the BlackBerry Priv on sale for the spring

The other day, we told you that BlackBerry was offering the Android powered Priv on sale for $349 in the U.S. That is a 30% discount from the previous price. Now joining the BlackBerry Priv on the list of discounted BlackBerry handsets is the BlackBerry DTEK50. The all-touch Berry is now priced at $249, a $50 savings from the usual $299 price for the model. On a percentage basis, that works out to a 16.7% discount.

The DTEK50  features a 5.2-inch screen with a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. The Snapdragon 617 chipset is under the hood with an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU, and the Adreno 405 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside, along with 16GB of native storage. Those seeking additional storage can access the 256GB microSD slot that is on board. The 13MP rear-facing camera features an f/2.0 aperture, and comes with PDAF laser focus. An 8MP front-facing snapper handles selfies and video chats. Keeping the lights on is a 2610mAh battery that can be charged to 50% in just 50 minutes. Android 6.0 is pre-installed.

Very capable smartphone at a decent price point for this sale. Not a fan of the small battery, but it does have Quick Charge capabilities.

Ah... Seems like Blackberry is dying... Wait... Seems like Blackberry's "mobile division" is dying... I hope it doesn't offend anyone...! Truth ought not to hurt, even though it's supposed to hurt, eh?! Aye, I know I'm a weirdo... Anyhow, I bought my S6 for an equivalent of $400... Should've waited a tad more and grabbed The heavily discounted Berry...! I'm talking about The Perv... Ahem... The Pirv... Honest mistake...! The Priv is by far the sleekest looking smartphone I've seen in recent years... And The $350 asking price is absolutely NOTHING compared to the product you get... To me, an old flagship is almost always better than a brand new mid-ranger...! But then again,The Priv would never get an update to Nougat... Oh well, G'Day!

BlackBerry hasn't had a mobile division since September of last year. Either you didn't read about it (I know it's getting harder and harder for those eyes to work properly at your age), or the memory loss is kicking in. Please provide a link as proof to back up your claim that the PRIV will never receive the update to Nougat. Don't worry, I'll wait....

If I may, you are without a doubt wasting your precious time trying to have even a remotely logical conversation with him. It is an absolute waste of time to ever attempt to present factual information to someone that has decided to dedicate their time on an internet site to the spreading of false information and incessant trolling. Your time would be better spent questioning the carnivores of the family Felidae about why they roar.

Quite an effective little device, as my son is thoroughly enjoying his. I would personally like to see BlackBerry Mobile create a successor to the DTEK 50 so that I may purchase that for him as well.

It will be up to TCL whether or not to create a successor. But since they are already working on new Alcatel's, I think the odds are good they will make a BB variant...

I hope they make a successor to the DTEK60. I think that's one blackberry phone that is worth owning imo.

Blackberry News Flash! March 25, 2017 Blackberry is finished as a company! Or most definitely should be.... I bought another brand new Blackberry Classic back in November 2016, about a week after they stopped selling that model on their website. But still selling that model through retailers off their site and selling that Blackberry operating system right now as their new fan dangled OS. Not being able to back up my 2 year old Classic, I thought it had a problem. Then recently, a couple weeks ago, realized something else was going on. So I tried to load my still brand new unused Blackberry Classic with my prior saved data and phone back on file, it didn't work either... With the current updated new Blackberry OS version on a brand new Blackberry phone you can not do as advertised, You can not send any contact data, music data, Picture data, videos, or phone data of any sort through a data cable, bluetooth or Wifi. They now all of a sudden expect me to use an SD card for one time use (like before they even started making this type equipment lol) to transfer data to and from my brand new Blackberry phone. So Blend does not work! Link does not work! Neither does their hardware properly! None works as advertised. They are committing wire fraud, fraud, and conspiring to defraud their customers in the future. It is time to file a class action lawsuit and take them down. Also ask FBI and RCMP to investigate these fake, fraud artists. They can’t do or supply what they are selling basically, so they are finished as a company or definitely should be.

So...since today is March 24th 2017, and you have this "news flash" dated for March 25th 2017, one of two things is the truth here. Either you and Marty McFly fired up the Delorean time machine and went "Back to the Future" to post this, or you hit the old copy and paste here from someone else's comment from some other comments section of some other site that was made last year on March 25th, 2016. If the former is true, can I borrow the Delorean time machine for a bit? I'd love to take it for spin!

What's he even talking about?

I haven't the slightest idea, especially since his comment is full of more lies than the Norse god Loki.

Sounds like he had an issue with his Classic. An issue that seems fair to be addressed. I'm not going to be a clown and make light of it. Not saying that you are. You were just asking.

In any event, it's false information like this (especially the part about not being able to send contacts and various data over wifi or Bluetooth) that gets spread around and brings out the ignorant buffoons who lap this stuff up.

Of course, when you have denial in your system, you tend to overlook the bad stuff.

Of course, those that often speak of denial are usually the ones in denial themselves.

24. Mxyzptlk unregistered

Or those who are clearly in it, but refuse to acknowledge that they are in denial. They are just full of crap, as usual.

Lol, nerve touched, deep in your gut. Especially since we both know that you can't make me shut up, cowardly keyboard warrior.
