BBC iPlayer coming to Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8
Those with Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 flavored handsets, if you like the BBC we have some great news. The British media giant has inked a deal with Microsoft to release its BBC iPlayer to the Windows Phone platform. Not only will it work on the two aforementioned builds, the app will also work via a Live Tile.
The issued short cut for BBC iPlayer will wrap the iPlayer together with the BBC media player and should expand the reach of the BBC on mobile devices. Currently, there are 650 different types of devices that can use the BBC iPlayer. Currently, iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices can use the app, which allows users to watch live television and listen to live radio over Wi-Fi or 3G.
According to Kantar, Windows Phone has a 6.2% share of the U.K. smartphone pie, which makes it a legitimate and relevant playa (or player, for the more conservative) in the region.
