Assassin's Creed: Identity features mind-blowing graphics, out for Android and iOS next year

Wow! It looks like we were sleeping under a rock, because we're seeing the new Assassin's Creed mobile game - Identity - for the first time, and it blew us away! This is an actual AC title, complete with the gorgeous graphics, sword fights, and old-timey parkour we know from its PC and console incarnations. It's merely scaled down so its content can fit into the typical free to play format. And besides, the time for 14GB or so video game downloads on smartphones is still far off.

Anyway, Assassin's Creed: Identity puts your protagonist in an Italian setting that features smaller levels instead of full-blown cities, and short quests in the place of epic assassination missions. Make no mistake, though, no AC mobile game of such authentic proportions has been available until now. In addition to all the running and gunning you'll be doing, the game introduces new types of assassins to the club, such as the Shadowblade and the Berserker. And the graphics quality is another story! Identity is powered by the Unity engine and features high-definition textures, shaders and models based on content from the original console games. There's also a crowd system, dynamic weather, and dynamic lighting. Finally, we're seeing what those quad-core CPUs of ours can really pull off!

Currenttly, Assassin's Creed: Identity is on a "soft launch" (small-scale pre-release) in the Australia and New Zealand Apple App Store. However, the game will be out worldwide for Android and iOS devices (iPad 3 and later, or iPhone 5 and later).

Pretty nice for mobile. But I can just imagine how boring it is to play.

I honestly play AC just because of the story, and jumping from roofs and stabbing someone. Gameplay is repetitive.

This is not a full blown AC game... And it's never happening on mobile. If ever, at least not in a few years at least.

I always find you here trash talking about mobile gaming as if it will change the outcome of the inevitable shift from PC to console to mobile. I played Karateka to castlevania to Wolfenstein 3D to original DOOM to Crysis to BattleField 3. For mobile i play with the original Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, NDS and PSP. Mobile Phone offer the best mobile gaming experience at least for me are Dead Trigger, Wild Blood and Order and Chao Online. The only thing that is constant is change. Gaming is no exception.

You're wrong :) As I just said this is not a full blown AC game. They even say it in the video... As for mobile gaming, yes, I don't think it's that fun. I rarely play any games on mobile. Only strenght I see is the easiness. So for example if you have a short time to wait, like 20 min max, you can quickly grab your phone and play a little. But then if you have a longer trip on plane or something. It's impossible to have fun with mobile games for a long amount of time. First of all there's the ergonomics. Its horrible to hold a phone and not to mention the touch screen controls. Sure you can buy a separate controller but that kinda kills the idea of easiness and "mobile". Also it's just a fact that games on smartphones are not as well made as console/pc (hand held too). They are more quickly made, unintuitive, bland gameplay, boring simply just CHEAP. Much better to grab a 3DS or PS Vita for long trips. For home PC or one of the 3 consoles. Mobile just for quick occasional flappy bird plays. Sure this might change, but not anytime soon.

Here's another take from a different kind of mobile gamer. I personally don't play games on my mobile that originated from other platforms. Let's say AC here, I've got a PS for that and it's much more enjoyable. What I like to play on my phone are games like Clash of Clans, Battle Dragons, Boom Beach, Fruit Ninja (for real), and the like. Yes gaming is moving towards mobile but IMO the best games on mobile right now are the ones developed with the touch screen being an integral part of the gaming experience. Removing preferences, just take a look at some of the most successful apps: Angry Birds, Fruit ninja, Temple Run etc. These games take advantage of the "touch screen environment". Games that try to emulate the gaming experience from console and PC will always fall short, so unless they finally figure out how to properly utilize the touch screen for RPG (not with virual joysticks) I believe the so called "serious" gamers will always find the games lacking.

Yes exactly. The best games on mobile are those very simple games. Clash of Clans is really the only game I play. I have X-Plane downloaded just because I want it to be there because I love flying xD But then those simple games again are not fun if played a long period of time. So yeah still mobile is best for just quick plays.

I have some flight simulators too, those are just pretty darn fun lol but yeah not something you will play everyday. I probably play mobile games just every now and then when I need to farm and get some trophies but with my PS/PC I play hours on end. So I guess what mobile RPG game devs needs to do is look for a way to utilize the touchscreen without trying to emulate the PC/console controls. The PC/console version should stay as is, meaning superb graphics and long story lines, while the mobile versions shouldn't be a stripped version but rather a totally different game (can be with the same story) but different gaming style. Just my opinion.

Yaa the developers have to come up with something totally different. That would draw me more into the mobile gaming. But about the X-Plane I have the full X-Plane 10 on my PC so yeah an other reason why I don't really use it on mobile lol.

What PC hasn't gone away where There's now 100M users on Steam, increased from 75M at the beginning of the year And that's just Steam, there's still League of Legends and, which also have huge user bases I can see SOME casual console gamers moving to mobiles, but there will still be many who stick with PC/consoles since mobiles games still can't compete with PC/console games in terms of game play and controls Even with a controller, tablets screens are still too small The most popular large tablet is the iPad, its 4:3 screen isn't ideal for gaming, since its not widescreen

PC game are not going away yes. I have more than a hundred title in my own steam account but the new generation of gamers are not drawn to PC. They have high end mobile phone at a very young age and that where effort will be directed. I also spent lot of time on angry bird when its was popular. Touch screen game play has changed gamer perspective as mentioned by cezarepc compared to game and watch, psp, pc gaming, xbox 360 and PS3 gaming approach. My point is we should adopt a open mind approach, willing to learn new gaming and control mechanism.

AC are decent games but way too overrated. There's nothing mind blowing and innovative in them. Every one of them from the first to the latest is generally the same with minor game play improvements and better graphics. The industry is literally filled with games very similar to AC. Sure good. But nothing that special. Like CoD, Battlefield and EA Sports games.

You're competing CoD and battlefield to AC???? Really??? Have you ever finished a full AC game(except OG one)??? Mind blowing visuals, deep story line, awesome stunts, and awesome BGM take you to back to the old europe.... And I remember call of juarez series was very good too with same qualities...but they screwed it afterwards.... Big FIFA fan here but sports games are no competition....

May be your taste is different... I like games which have more story in them...and also gives importance to characters....and also games which are staged in old europe and west..... And also I like stealth games like splinter cell and hitman series....

AC is like 8/10 in every department. It's nothing spectacular 12/10 in any. Sure our tastes may be different but I also love games with heavy story. But I may be leaned more to the RPG's and Japanese hack and slash or fighting games.
