Apple App Store now has 300,000 apps
The Apple App Store found on devices running on iOS such as the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod Touch hit a new plateau today, as it now features over 300,000 applications.

The App Store has been available for a few years now, as it made its debut on the original iPhone. It brought new life to a device that had little versatility outside of superb web browsing, and mediocre smartphone functionality.

Nobody could have predicted that the App Store would have grown the way that it has. It is now the main attraction for all devices running iOS, as it gives the user the ability to do anything imaginable while on the go. Games, utilities, navigation etc. are all found in abundance in what is the largest mobile application store in the world.

There are some strong competitors however, the strongest of which is found on the Android platform. The Android Market already boasts close to 140,000 applications in several months less time than the App Store. It isn’t out of the question that the Android Market could catch up to the App Store in regards to sheer volume of available applications, but that will take a great deal of time.

Whether you like Apple and their iOS or not, you must admit that the rapid rate of growth the App Store has gone through is rather impressive. Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Why does everybody hate on Apple? They just try to make their products easy to use. I have an iPod touch, what's the difference? No Sarcasm (uh, the phone?) iOS 5 Makes it even better. So don't be yelling at Apple. It is what it is, a wonderful product.

Like it or not, one unavoidable fact is that Apple jumpstarted the mobile world with the iPhone. Yes, there were pocket PC’s before but if it wasn’t for the iPhone, there would not be HCT EVO’s, or android’s or any of them. Just like that, eTablets were nothing but white & black and then iPad hit town and now we’ll have the blackberry “playbook”, the Samsung Tablet. Well, maybe they would’ve come anyway, but It definitively would had take a lot longer…now, where’s my hover-skate?

If it wasn't for the Evo there would be no iPhone 4, let's see, 1gh CPU, 512mb RAM, front facing camera, video calling. Yes al came from the Evo 1st. How can Apple say how everybody copies them by they secretly copied feature of the Evo. Come on, the iPhone would not have a front facing camera if t wasn't for the Evo. Yes there have Been other phones with front facing camera phones but none of them have been out in the public for the usa. Apple is just like Microsoft, they pay money to steal ideas from others.

The evo was only out for a little while before iPhone 4 was released. There would have been no way to change production of the iPhone 4 when the evo was announced because it would have cost a fortune.

I you want to talk about release date in June of 2010, then yes, BUT he Evo was 1st called the Supersonic back in November of 2009. That's where the spec sheet came out and Apple knew with its features, they had to Copy to keep up. Hell after 3 years you can change your background and do little very small multitasking. They really needed to do something to keep from being out gunned. So hey copied ideas and features to keep up but say everyone else is copying them. Again HTC Supersonic spec sheet in Nov 2009, plenty of time to make adjustments.

Apple had a patent that was leaked in 2008 indicating a front facing camera.

I respect Apple and the iPhone for what it is. It's a great internet and multimedia device...not much of a "phone," but it does everything else well. Some people want a phone that is simple and easy. It's not for me, and I wouldn't buy one, but it fills a market gap.

Id fucking hate it. ive been with sprint and verizon as an employee and id hate to have to sell it, because i dont believe in the product. i know people would come in for it, and i want to get paid, so i couldnt say no, but id hate every second of it. Ive pushed hard against the iphone my whole wireless career and id hate to have to embrace it to feed myself.

I am not an Apple fan, but the way Apple revolutionize or redefine the mobile industry is amazing. You can witnessed it by seeing the trend that almost all other manufacturers trying to imitate the iPhone design. That is a huge success. whether people like it or not this is the truth.

copy what? the design?! android and symbian is very different from the restricted, for kids- no share-no flash- no customize OS from apple.

1. iphone lover unregistered

iphone is an overpriced kids' phone.. no customization, simple, easy,,hundred thousand of games and fart apps

2. the truth unregistered

iphone is also for teens,,,, get iphone if you are 18 and below. symbian and android are for adults/professionals.

pff, look boy, I'm not gonna get into the stupid fanboy game of "you're an asshole because of the phone you use" grow up, there are thousands of things beyond your house's door, go out...

@rent...these are the folks who support Android. I stopped caring about Android as soon as Google started their campaign with Verizon about limiting Net Neutrality on the moble web. Trash Apple and Steve Jobs all you want, but at least Apple wants you to have full access to the internet from your mobile device. If iPhones are for teens, then my 25-year-old self will continue to be a teenager for the rest of my life. I don't need Google, of all companies, telling me where I can surf and how much I can do it from my phone. And you can bet that if Apple switched their positioning, I'll turn away from them too...Keep the web open. But back on subject, at least Apple has some approval process so you don't get 500 fart apps. Android Market is cool because there is no approval process...if the app works then it goes on. But the result of that is a bunch of fart apps.

14. lexus unregistered

ur a dumbsh*t apple does restrict where you can go and do on the internet. hmm do you have flash.... nope and apple never will they said they wont. you realize most developers arent even doing ios development anymore cause of how restrictive apple is and the approval process and yet they allow 50k fart apps. wake up and quit drinking the coolaid 300k apps big woop, 50k fart apps and 100 versions of every game. and all apps cost money. hmm angry birds is a sweet game how much did you have to pay for it? o yea it was free for us on android. people who have iphones have them cause they think they are a status symbol. ur not cool get over it iphone is trash and att's sh*tty network. you prob drive a bmw also and think your so cool....

15. JeffdaBeat unregistered

OOOOO... I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Steve Jobs on this one. Apple didn't kill Flash. Open Source killed Flash. Why should any developer pay Adobe for what HTML5 can do at no cost at all? Are you saying developers are better off paying someone for a plugin then just getting it for free? Yeah...I totally see where you are coming from... And you know what, I don't mind paying for good Apps. Why? Because the creator gets the money for it and with Apple, they get a GOOD CHUNK of money for it. But do you even have an iPhone to talk about how bad the apps are? I'll name a few game apps that even gaming websites have ranked highly among phone games: N.O.V.A., Ravensword, Hero of Sparta, Dungeon Hunter, Gangstar... People buy iPhones because they are easy to use. Period. It's definitely a status symbol, but so are most of the things we buy in life. Big screen tvs, nice cars...all status symbols. Your Android phone is a status symbol because you can afford and use a smartphone when most of the US is still on a dumbphone. And I could drive a Geo Metro and still think I am better than a guy who censors his own curse words...let alone can't express himself without them...

apple iphone becoming new pacifier for toddlers. very fitting phone arena. lol iRestricted = iCant share files = iTunes

I totally agree with you Jeff on what google and verizon are trying to do, i just dont believe it will ever come close to happening so i dont care if they try. plus if they do succeed i guarentee a hack for it by a crafty android developer that we can all load in to our smartphones. Got to love a linux based OS. Id rather give my money to those attempting to b a fascist and failing than the actual successful fascist steve jobs. PS i like my big tv because I LIKE A BIG SCREEN. i guess the car thing is valid tho
