AT&T is the first major US carrier to offer a new method of payment
AT&T has just announced that all customers accessing some of its services can now pay for them using cryptocurrency. The new option is available through BitPay and allows consumers to pay their online bills with virtual currency.

Coming for the first time to a major US carrier, the BitPay payment option must be selected when you log on to your account online or with the myAT&T app.

The only cryptocurrency accepted by BitPay at the moment is Bitcoin, so if you have that, you can now use it to pay your phone bills at AT&T. Although there are many companies in the US that accept payments with cryptocurrency, AT&T seems to be the first important name in the telecom business to make the option available to customers.

Others might embrace the trend if enough of their customers would be willing to use cryptocurrency to pay for telecom services, or they might be tempted to introduce the new feature just to match AT&T's move.
