A true edge-to-edge screen: a new prototype phone shows what the future could look like

Here is an idea: resurrect the old slider form factor of phones. Sounds crazy, but it makes sense as the bottom slide out part can actually house all of those things.

After all, you don't want anything interrupting the all-screen design. And yes, phones might end up being thicker if they are made this way, but isn't this also opportunity to put a larger battery in those devices.

It certainly seems like an interesting idea and at least one company seems to be working on it. Right below you can see the result of their work: a prototype of a device that might become real some day in the future.

Would you buy such a phone?

That isn't edge to edge. Bezeless is like the sides of the note 8.....not that make it like the note 8 sides all the way round and it would be true bezeless

Did you not see them pull down the screen at the beginning? It's at the top of the phone where one normally finds it, but behind the sliding-screen.

You save space on the front, but you have to sacrifice thickness, water resistance and pay extra money for this mechanism, if it is made really durable. Your ear has no direct contact to the speaker, you have to slide up for notfication LED etc. Better go with with a small bezel on the top.

I want flip front camera (like Huawei Honor 7i), and thin (like Mi Mix 2 front speaker) front-facing stereo speaker

Though, this a diffenrent concept, It took me back to the days of the nokia n95/n86 having used both the phones and msliding mechanoism on both the phones were really smooth.. If a phone with this concept is released in the future again it will be a hit... This would only work if earpiece section should slide out automatically if the user is receiving a call or has dialled the no... Otherwise i really love the concept i think this a better copcept then having foldable screens on smartphones, as foldable screens would make the phone delicate and thick...

true bezelless display is the one where we don't have goddam bezels around the desplay. not thin ones. no bezels at all.

Sony can do it if they want. And turn screen into the speaker just like the oled tv A1E.

No, I wouldn't buy it. I want a camera and fp embedded in the display.

Excellent design, very beautiful. I highly approve. Not completely bezel-less, but close enough. Let's hope more phones follow this slide-out front cam design to achieve the all-screen look.

Bezel-less phones are stupid. Interrupting the screen with a mini bezel wedge is even stupider. Also, buying a bezel (a.k.a. case) for a bezel-less phone is stupid. A phone functions better with a forward facing microphone at the bottom, a forward facing speaker at the top, a forward facing camera at the top, a forward facing light source (for notifications and/or the camera) at the top, a forward facing ambient light sensor somewhere, and, ideally, a forward facing speaker at the bottom. Also, some forms of facial ID require additional forward facing emitters and/or sensors. These are all functions I expect in a phone and it's form should follow this.
