6 essential apps for your car (Android, iOS, Windows Phone)
Despite manufacturers starting to pay more and more attention to the quality of the infotainment systems they integrate with their vehicles, it's more than fair to say that the industry as a whole is just now starting to play catch-up. And even if you're one of few folks out there with a brand new card with support for either Android Auto or Apple Car, literally billions of vehicles out there are still limited to either horribly outdated solutions that do little other than multimedia (and even that), or have no such system at all.

Luckily, our smartphones can nowadays easily double up as infotainment systems rather easily, so long as you have the right apps installed. Obviously, different people will be looking for different things, but it's fair to say that most of the apps we've picked for you to use within or in concert with your car will have a place on most people's lists.

Jump right in, for it's time to talk essential car apps!

I use GasBuddy all the time. It's a great app.

Try also Navier HUD Navigation Free, it integrates nicely with google maps, and has configurable display gauges, colors, including HUD. Can save presents, for instance if you are interrested only in speed or navigation, etc https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=idv.xunqun.navier&hl=en

I really really hate people who use their phone while they are driving (like the photo), they don't even notice when I show them the finger.

Actually I find WAZE to be more essential than any of those apps... and recent updates to WAZE include an automatic Parking detection that save the place where you park and got out of the car... I was very surprised when I unexpectedly found out. The other app I occasionally use is SpeedView, which gives me similar features to Hudway since years ago... But the hudway AD is really misleading, the HUD reflection is about the same size of your phone's display, there is no increase.
