5 best Android dialer apps for 2016
With the likes of Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Viber, and too many others to mention, it feels like communication in the digital era is increasingly based on typing. For various reasons, many of us prefer this medium to dialing a friend, and that's just a fact. But that doesn't mean you should expect your smartphone to stop supporting voice calls in the future. It's part of what made mobile phones the tech obsession of the day, and it's here to stay.

Due to the open nature of Android, however, many phone makers have taken to customizing the user experience in order to add additional features that are intended to add value. That, of course, is not always the case, and Android manufacturers are certainly not immune to making mistakes. The phone app (or dialer), for example, a feature so essential it's eponymous with the very category, is rarely as perfectly executed as one may wish. If you feel that'st he case with your current device, you may want to take a look at what dialers are available for free off the Play Store.

We tried tens of them just recently, and shortlisted the 5 we thought worked best. We put emphasis on simplicity, essential functionality, speed and design when picking them, so hopefully the list will have a solution for most of you. Here goes:

I never knew how much I'd miss the HTC dialer (and HTC's software in general) until I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm so looking forward to trading this thing in.

You are weird if you think the dialer on the Samsung's s6, s6+ and the notes are not good. They are so easy to use.

Really? How often do people use a dialer these days, everyone has contacts. Plus the odd time that you do use it, there's not much to it, you just tap numbers.

I use mine extremely frequently. Calling a lot of people is part of my job and I'm damn sure not saving all their numbers.

Everybody does, including you! Calling somebody by tapping a name, using voice or google now do "call xxxx" tapping a recent call is all done by your dialer. If you use your phone as a phone, your using your dialer.

I kinda miss the integration of visual voicemail in the dialer on my iPhone, now they just come as MMS in my messaging app (Textra)...wonder if it'll be coming back in Cyanogen OS 13 similar to Google Phone app.

ExDialer has been my go-to Dialer app for the last 4 years, due to its fast launch time and buttery smoothness.
