WSJ: Verizon branded Apple iPhone coming in Q1 2011
The Wall Street Journal, quoting anonymous sources, said in Wednesday's edition that a Verizon branded Apple iPhone will be launched in the first quarter of 2011. The same sources say that Apple will be mass producing the device at the end of the year. With the report, the prestigious business paper puts its name behind the often rumored-almost mythical-creation and joins others who have recently published stories about an upcoming iPhone for Big Red.

At a press conference at the CTIA show in San Francisco, Verizon COO Lowell McAdam said that he had not yet read the article in the Journal and refused to comment on whether his firm would be selling the iPhone.

Where there is smoke, there is fire and other stories have based the knowledge of a Verizon variant of Apple's touchscreen device on a large order of CDMA chips placed by the Cupertino based firm, an analyst checking his contacts along Apple's supply chain and there are those who claim to have had a hands-on experience with the device. As we reported this past Summer, Bloomberg  ran a report about an Apple iPhone for Verizon that is expected to be released in January.

The WSJ report went on to add that Apple is working on the iPhone 5 which will have a different form factor. The story was not clear on when that model will be ready to go to market.

I wonder what VZW fans will be telling now. I bet many of them will buy one if this ever happens.

I wanted the iphone badly when it first came out but was unwilling to switch to att. Now I have a htc incredible and could care less if it ever comes to Verizon. Choice is good though, so for some that like verizon they have the choice between Android and ios and the apple fans can pick the carrier that suits them. A win for all.

Here we go again with Iphone for Verizon. When Verizon and Apple announce it I will believe it. Smart move not to announce it yet if true because it would make people to wait to upgrade there current phones.

True story; this may very well impact the upgrade business for the VZSW folks. Hell, if I knew, for sure, that an iPhone release on VZW was imminent, I would stick with whatever piece of shit device I was using until it became available. Another thing that lends credence to this, are the public statements made by Lowell McAdam (former CEO of VZW, now currently COO of Verizon COmmunications) and Ivan Seidenberg. Also, anyone notice that AT&T has diversified their smartphone portfolio? The iPhone network has some legitimate alternate offerings now, I see this as a definitive sign that they are preparing for a post-iPhone exclusivity world.

butters, who cares about global ready. I just switched to VZ then back to ATT for iphone. I have been wanting a vz iphone for over a year. It is not going to happen the 2 companies will not see eye to eye. There are other companies that use CDMA so just because Apple needs CDMA chips doesn't mean it is coming to vz.

i agree with so many... i've waited so long for a VZ iphone, and am SO tired of waiting and waiting after rumor after rumor about it. i love VZ, but wish they would've gotten the point earlier that people would love a VZ iphone. and to me, Apple has been stupid in staying exlusive - sure making people want one is one thing, but making people wait years may have cost them a huge number of VZ customers who now enjoy Droid phones. i JUST got my droid r2d2 in mail today, and hearing that an iphone may be coming is bitter sweet. i don't really wanna spend $400 now on an iphone despite how badly i want one...

I think this may be it. When you have Lowell McAdam AND Ivan Seidenberg (COO and CEO of Verizon Communicaitons, respectively) publicly stating, within a weel of each other, that they would love an iPhone to sell, that tells me it is a done deal. These guys wouldn't publicly stick their dicks out unless an agreement had already been made.

Enough already. Seriously. Nobody has any business saying "it's coming! it's coming!" until Verizon holds a press conference saying "yes. it's coming." Not Wall Street, not Bloomberg, no one. The term, "beating a dead horse, with a lead pipe, then a baseball bat with nails sticking out, then Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks, then a napalm bomb, then a laser machine gun (fires lots of smaller laser beams, not one constant stream), then shot into space directly towards the sun", comes to mind. I believe I speak for everyone here when I say I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THIS STORY AGAIN UNLESS IT COMES FROM LOWELL MCADAMS' MOUTH. Thank you.

While I am filled with hope that VZW will get the iPhone, like many of you, I too will believe it when I see it. I have used Blackberry's for 12+ years and sadly, I have seen the quality of the device diminish year after year. I tried to Android based devices (LG Ally and Motorola Droid X) and neither held up for me. I use an iPod Touch and love it, especially when it comes to email and web pages. If the Verizon's iPhone is anything like that, I will be very happy. I do find something very interesting here though as it relates to "where there is smoke there is fire." Verizon, like all carriers, does big business at Christmas time. If I am new to smartphone's, or thinking about upgrading, why wouldn't I wait till Q1 to have a full spectrum (Blackberry, Android, Apple, etc.) of devices/os's to chose from? On the surface this seems like poor marketing on VZW's part.

Maybe they will take pre-orders around Christmas. A few years ago when the LG Voyager came out, stores were out of stock, so people who ordered them as gifts were given these fancy looking gift boxes with a card inside that read "Congratulations on your new Voyager", or something to that effect. I could totally see that happen, opening an iPhone box on Christmas morning with a I.O.U. inside!

I am a VZW user, and I would like it if VZW would get an iPhone, if for nothing else than to have a VZW handset that will easily and effectively sync with my Mac. As it stands, the only options one has for getting music onto a Android device from a Mac is drag and drop, or that awful DoubleTwist. C'mon man, iTunes is soooo fucking easy. I swear, VZW has a fucking hard-on against Apple, not being able to sync shit, unless you have an OLD Moto E-815 or a BlackBerry. Also, Netflix is pretty cool; iPhone does it, Droid Doesn't. I am rocking a Droid X and a Samsung Fascinate. They are great devices, but when it comes to doing what I want them to do, they fall short. I wouldn't give a shit about an iPhone if my Droid devices could sync w/ iTunes and run Netflix, but until that becomes a reality, I'll keep my hope that VZW finally lands an iPhone, and please God, please don't let it be one that is bogged down with all of VZWs bullshit services, apps (VCast, City ID, you know), that would fucking ruin it.

I wonder if the battery life will be terrible. We all remember how bad the Razr was when it came over to VZW.

If Verizon gets the iphone wouldn't it make sense to have it capable with their new 4g network coming out??? I know these rumors have been flying around for a decade now and we all are sick and tired of hearing the same story told by a different person. This could be a reality though. If Verizon does indeed get the iphone it should deliver at least the same goods as any totl android and at least have LTE on its back.
