WSJ: Verizon branded Apple iPhone coming in Q1 2011
The Wall Street Journal, quoting anonymous sources, said in Wednesday's edition that a Verizon branded Apple iPhone will be launched in the first quarter of 2011. The same sources say that Apple will be mass producing the device at the end of the year. With the report, the prestigious business paper puts its name behind the often rumored-almost mythical-creation and joins others who have recently published stories about an upcoming iPhone for Big Red.

At a press conference at the CTIA show in San Francisco, Verizon COO Lowell McAdam said that he had not yet read the article in the Journal and refused to comment on whether his firm would be selling the iPhone.

Where there is smoke, there is fire and other stories have based the knowledge of a Verizon variant of Apple's touchscreen device on a large order of CDMA chips placed by the Cupertino based firm, an analyst checking his contacts along Apple's supply chain and there are those who claim to have had a hands-on experience with the device. As we reported this past Summer, Bloomberg  ran a report about an Apple iPhone for Verizon that is expected to be released in January.

The WSJ report went on to add that Apple is working on the iPhone 5 which will have a different form factor. The story was not clear on when that model will be ready to go to market.
