The new S Pen can still get stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

You might recall that last year, owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 who weren't paying attention could find their S Pen permanently stuck inside its housing. Inserting the pen backwards would damage the spring mechanism, and short of attempting a rescue by opening up the phablet, the S Pen was gone forever.

This year, Samsung added a mechanism to the S Pen's housing on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7that blocks a careless user from inserting the pen backwards. But there is another issue this year that can result in a stuck S Pen. And it all starts with the mechanical button on the stylus-like tool, which is pressed when you want to remove it from its housing. On some units, the pen's mechanical button will stop clicking which means that users will need to resort to some unapproved tactics to free the S Pen.

Some are blaming the new waterproof design for the problem. According to a source in the industry, Samsung has briefed reps on how to handle the issue. If your S Pen is stuck, and you are able to remove it with a pin, you will be able to get a new (hopefully redesigned) S Pen. If removal is not possible, you can send your Galaxy Note 7 to Sammy. The manufacturer will get the S Pen out and return your phone to you with one of the new pens.

Unlike last year, when we could tell you to watch carefully how you replace the S Pen on your Galaxy Note 5, this time it is merely the luck of the draw. Samsung is warning Galaxy Note 7 users not to push the S Pen into the housing too hard after the click sound is heard.
