The Sony Xperia Z5 line gets Marshmallow update in Japan, here are all the changes
Although the Xperia Z series is no more, Sony delivered on its promise to update the Z5 line to Marshmallow. Sony has started seeding the Android 6.0 update to Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium units on Japanese carrier DoCoMo's Network. There's no info on when the update will be broadcast outside Japan, or when it will be reaching unlocked units. However, Sony has published screenshots and details on at least 20 additions contained in the Marshmallow update.

This is a pretty big one, Z5 owners, so be ready for some welcome changes and improvements across the board! You can learn more about the changelog in the slideshow below. Thanks to /r/Android's trinitynox and PeanutButterChicken for the English translation!

I prefer the approach Sony is taking. They are taking their time but adding useful features, not just adding the 2 things google did and calling it an update. I don't understand one thing though; why did they remove the colored notification bar in some apps(pics 13 and 14) which was present on lollipop?

Look forward to see if Sony and Samsung in Denmark keep their promises. Sony says that the 6.0.1 will be out with the next 2 weeks and Samsung says that the S6 series gets it on March 7th.

Sony's 'next 2 weeks' probably means at least a month. But I don't really care if they take their time for a bug-free update to be honest. Anyways, I've read that the Z3 with 2014's SD801 flies with the new update.http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/03/01/sonys-marshmallow-android-concept-is-our-favourite-xperia-software-to-date/

If this update doesn't fix the slow camera, I'm going to root my phone and port euphoria rom to it. Not worth the extra bloat and all if their main draw for staying unrooted is slow as hell.

Honestly Sony should be number 1 oem for Android. I just don't understand why they don't sell Xperia's like PS4s. my current phones are lumia 950xl and z5 best of both worlds.

Frankly I quite like the UI of Sony phones but with time and with updates as TouchWiz once was. Sony needs to improve their ROM among other features. Sony sells so many PS4s because it is Kids market and no dad can dare say no :) which isnt the case for mobiles. To become No.1 OEM, it definitely needs to do something ground breaking, that isnt even thought of in the past. Unfortunately, Sony doesnt seem to be spending so much on R&D to actually achieve this.

That's because most people only choose between Samsung and Apple. I think being number 3 of all smartphone makers is enough for Sony Mobile to survive. Not to mention limited carrier availability and exorbitant price tags in some countries which turns off many customers. Oh well. As long as they're here, I'm not switching brands.

Yes, Sony lets you use the memory card as internal storage.

What about fixing the shutter lag or adding Camera 2api. or even letting 23 or 20MP image capture with third-party apps?

I mainly want the combined internal and MicroSD storage as part of the upgrade. Hopefully Sony will implement that unlike Samsung and LG.
