Sony trademarks Xperia Sola name in U.S. and Europe
Remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1? Released late September 2008, the first Sony Ericsson model to be powered by Windows Mobile was known for its panels UI which actually have been a bit ahead of its time. Fast forward to this year's CES show in Las Vegas, and the Xperia line has certainly undergone some big changes since the X1. The panels are gone and so is Windows Mobile, replaced by Android.
And during this year's CES, the Sony Xperia S was one of the handsets that really seemed to catch on with those attending the show. Besides its cool translucent strip beneath the screen, the sexy smartphone also repels dirt and offers users a faster recharging experience. Check out our hands-on coverage of the Sony Xperia S from those happy days at CES.
There will be more Xperia life for Sony after the Xperia S as the company has filed trademark applications with the USTO and OHIM for the U.S. and Europe respectively. The name that Sony is requesting protection for is the Xperia Sola. What kind of device Sony has in mind is unknown, although it most likely will be an Android smartphone. Of course, as soon as we have more information about the Sony Xperia Sola, we will pass it on to you. In the meantime, things have really changed in the 3 1/2 short years between the Sony Ericsson Xperia 1 and the Sony Ericsson Xperia S.
