Sony Ericsson intros four new phones

Today Sony Ericsson announced four new phones, including three clamshells and a slider, to enrich its product collection. Three of the phones are carrying the Walkman branding, as a part of the music-line, and one of those is targeted to active customers, including applications that help for working out.

The W710 and Z710 are based on the same platform, but have minor differences in the design, the preloaded applications and content, as well as in the shipping-box(the W710 has 512MB M2 card instead of 64MB one and adds some music accessories). They are clamshells with 176x220, 262k colors main displays and 128x128 pixels external greyscale ones. Both have 2-megapixel cameras similar to the units of the older K750 and W800, and not a 3-megapixel Cybershot branded, as the one used in the K790/K800 high-end devices.
Their business and multimedia features include EDGE and Internet browser, Bluetooth v2.0 with stereo audio support and music players with FM radio. The W710 logically has the Walkman audio player and 3.5mm stereo jack, which can be used for connecting of a variety of headphones, as most stereo HI-FI ones use this standard.
The W710 packs applications dedicated to the active people, including a program that keeps a check on how much you walk or work-out through the day. The external display can be used to navigate your sport or music tasks, or to read a message, which gives you an option to use the phone without opening it.
Both of the clamshells are quad-band GSM/EDGE world phone and are expected to ship in the third quarter of this year in all continents.

The W850 is the second Walkman phone announced today, again with advanced music functionally. It is in slider design and supports European 3G UMTS 2100MHz networks, which makes is video-calling capable through the additional camera on the front (the main unit is 2-megapixel one) and allows it to download music with high-speed. The latter can be done directly through the new Walkman player, without the need to open a separate internet browser. On the other hand the browsing is comfortable on the large QVGA (240x320) 262k color display. The W850 uses the MS PRO Duo memory cards, coming with a 1GB one in the box, and is capable of taking cards of up to 4GB, which is way more than the current 1GB limit of the M2 (MS Micro), used in the W710. If the memory is not enough to store all of your music, you can use the built-in FM radio.
The W850 is tri-band GSM phone and will be available in the third quarter of the year. Sony Ericsson haven't announced version of it, suitable for the US.

The Z550 is a mid-range clamshell and stylish design. It is made of brushed metal and high-gloss material in Sterling Black or Pearl Copper colors. The front cover is occupied by tiny greyscale display and 1.3-megapixel camera. Opening the shell reveals a 262k color internal display. The 20MB of internal memory can be expanded through M2 cards, to store digital music in addition to the FM radio.
