The S Pen for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has gone through its "biggest update ever"

Exactly one week ago, we passed along some exciting news from Twitter tipster Ice Universe about the S Pen accessory that will come in the box with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The tweet said that the new S Pen is "worth the wait." Samsung has since focused on the S Pen by featuring it on the invitation it sent out for the Unpacked event being held on August 9th. At that event, the Galaxy Note 9 will be introduced.

According to Ice Universe, the new S Pen will be able to control music and a long-range self-timer. The most interesting part of the tweet says that the S Pen will also have a function related to Bluetooth that has nothing to do with the accessory being a pen. There is some speculation that the S Pen will double as a wireless Bluetooth speaker. If this pans out, you can expect a thicker S Pen for the Galaxy Note 9 because it will need to be battery powered.

We will know more on August 9th, but to whet your appetite, consider that this S Pen has reportedly gone through the biggest update in the history of the accessory. For many of you, the next Unpacked event can't get here soon enough.

I flat out think it’ll be the best of 2018, but my next Note will most likely be the Note 10. The Note 8 is so good, I don’t see too much of a reason to upgrade it, but the unpacked event will ultimately decide it for me. The rumored 6.5 inch iPhone really has my interest, and if it pans out, it’s a mos def purchase. I can’t wait to see how the Note 9 looks, but the alleged camera/FPS setup is ugly.

I think their going to change the S pen only and not going to change the screen size just like the S9 and S9+ .... But I dont think the note10 will be the the 10 Years Universary because they skipped from Note5 to Note7.

Possibly, but I do think the Note 10 will be a bigger leap.

Rumors peg the Note 10 having a 4k display. So Gear VR should be awesome with a 4k display.

I’d immediately set the rez to 1080P. 4K on a phone is so overkill.

That's the amazing thing with Samsung smartphones, which is that you can set the screen resolution to whatever you want it to be. This means you could use 4K when viewing content that is deserving of it, such as VR. While 4K isn't necessary you could bump it down to the usual 1440p, which is what i feel like is the sweet spot. You can see a difference between 1080P and 1440P on the screen sizes of today, especially when reading.

But the rumors were that they skipped the 6 to get the note line cought up with the S line. If that is so they may have been thinking ahead to have the n10 and the s10 anniversary the same year.

How can you have a note 10 anniversary if you have only 9 phones? I think they will launch note 11 and note anniversary in 2020. IMO

I agree, even if it's for no other reason than the fact that Apple still has their same boxy; half-bezeled phones on the market, keeping the same design language is the smartest thing to do. There's absolutely no incentive for them to make drastic changes to compete with a company that's made almost no changes for at least a decade.

If the 6.5in X doesn't have split screen view or some other multitasking features it's going to be a waste.. This new spen rumor brings a whole new perspective to the Note 9. I was getting it anyway but now I'm a little more intrigued.. If the X+ doesn't have any new real features I'll just keep my X...

Im sure Apple will find a way to disappoint their users again lol.

Apple cannot disappoint its core users. They are the ones who claimed the PowerPC CPUs were superior when they were in fact being clobbered by x86 Intel chips.

As much as I hate to break it to you, Apple is guaranteed to sell a billion based on these four criteria: Netflix, YouTube, HDR content, and the holiday season rush to follow the initial launch.

Dude I totally agree. I jumped ship on iPhone and have never been so happy. My note 8 is still lightning fast and even with the beveled edge remains unbroken. It would be super easy for me to just keep this device. Just so good...

Just looks like they put a fingerprint sensor on it, maybe it unlocks the phone through bluetooth.

This might be the most unpractical usage of fingerprint sensor ever

Most unpractical? Wait till they move front-facing camera to Spen, lol..

That's sounds very interesting. I can't wait to see what Samsung has up their sleeve. The note 8 was a fantastic phone, and it sounds like the Note 9 is going to be noticeably better, especially as a result of the +1000 mAh battery capacity, which is an insane generational improvement.

Going to be interesting but I am going to hold off for the n10. I think it will be the biggest change for the note.

Same Note 10 should be an Awesome device! Galaxy X/Note 10/iPhone plus are the only things I'm gonna be looking at next year.

Definitely. I'll get the 9, 10, 11 and 12. Collect the entire set. The older Notes go into my Note Museum.

Wireless Bluetooth speaker?! Sounds like a stretch to me. A remote selfie stick for getting those perfect selfie shots for when real friends aren't available sounds more realistic to me lol. Or...maybe for drawing in a virtual world? That would be kinda cool!!
