Samsung Gear VR infographic shows you what the new gadget is all about
The topic of virtual reality is not one that is new, but it wasn't until recently that actual viable products that did VR properly were commercialized. At the forefront in that field is Oculus -- the company that brought us the Rift. As it turns out, Samsung's ever watchful eye was also pointed in the same general direction, and it didn't take long for the company to finally debut its own take on the new concept with the Gear VR.

The important thing to remember about the Samsung Gear VR is that Oculus played a major role in its creation, and this is made obvious by the "Powered by Oculus" marking on the side of the Samsung gadget. Where the two differ, however, is that the Gear VR will require an Android device to work (a Note 4), and that's important because the electronics giant will have to spur enough developer interest to jump-start the category on Android. Whether Samsung is to be met with success in that regard remains to be seen, so, for the time being, the company is mostly focused on explaining what the Gear VR actually is, and what it's made of. To that end, Samsung has published an infographic on its corporate blog that gives you the basics of the Gear VR in an understandable and easy-to-digest format. Check it out below!

There's nothing good about this Gear VR. Imagine yourself wearing this while walking on the street, in the mall, in the park, in the theather. In my opinion, another failed for Samsung and junk also.

Not sure what you're point is VR is not designed for use while walking or in public Including Oculus and Sony's Its for commercial/home use You're probably confusing it with AR (e.g. Google Glass)

I know but still useless. To whom can use and can watch. Only you and nothing else. Unless if your friend family member borrow and try but you cannot watch together like watching in the TV screen. Do you get what I mean.

There are probably many commercial uses E.g. for training for jobs, more realistic training with no risk of injury Then at home its a screen which fulls your visions So its great for media and gaming Sure its limited to one person But you could still share the experience with friends/family if you had one for each member E.g. the Oculus DK2 is $350, so that $1400 for a average family of 4, that much cheaper than a 80" projector

What games do u have on your phone that's worthy enough to show to your friends and family? When I play a ps4 or Xbox or Pc game I'm usually alone playing it, like most people. You must be different and unique type of person...

In my opinion, wearing this Gear VR you can only play alone. No competition or no excitement. Not just like playing in Xbox, Pc game with someone behind you laughing and enjoying.

Before you bash the tech you need to do some research first. Check out what this thing is capable of doing to your sense of reality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INDKNA7kXoou http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Odax7F3tWhM I knew nothing of oculus rift a week ago. Today I think it will be the future. This thing really does play with your brain. What other device can do this?

Still useless. You still need a big screen to connect and play and you will crazy like what happen to that guy, haha!

Dude! That's what makes the Gear VR so attractive. The screen is the Note 4 (which is better than the current Oculus dev kit 2) and there are no wires. The power and brains are coming from the Note 4. You could riding in the back of a car with a roller coaster sim. That would blow my mind. And you're confused. The PC version has a Note 3 display in the headset.

Don't mind this troll. If he can't see the potential of what this can do, then he should just stick to playing video games on his 640x480 black and white tube TV.

I really don't care what people think. I got the first gen Samsung gear watch when launch to use with my note 3. It's a good watch and Samsung has support it well with 3 major updates. I just bought Sony smartwatch 2 a few days ago to pair with my Xiaomi RedMi Note. Samsung gear don't work with non-Samsung brand therefore I got the Sony Smartwatch 2 as a tide over. I spoiled my Sony Smartwatch 1. I too use to a smart watch to live without it. Don't mean to offend you. Respect is mutual.

Yeah your right. Don't think whatever they say because it's your money. At least you know now that it is a gimmick for Samsung and useless as well. Try to watch this and you will see yourself. http://youtu.be/Odax7F3tWhM

Smart phone was once a gimmicks in the 90. Now its generally accepted as useful. You have a unusual hated for some thing that you don't even have hand on experience. I try the Sony TZ-1 personal home theater headset and didn't like it because its uncomfortable for my eyes and its also expensive. VR has always been expensive but Samsung VR Gear is within my affordability.
