Poll results: Glass, plastic, or nothing - are you using a screen protector?
Defending your phone from the daily wear and tear often involves wrapping it in a case of sorts, and there are hundreds to choose from for the most popular models. The most expensive element in our $600+ flagships, however, is the screen, and history has proven time and again that when they are dropped face-down, most phones' panels would crack, split, or downright shatter. This goes even for the rugged and shockproof ones, and replacing your phone screen costs pretty penny, especially if they are of the Super AMOLED variety, where Samsung has a monopoly.

One way to protect your displays better, besides being careful not to drop your handset on a hard surface, is carefully placing a screen protector over it. This way part of the impact will be absorbed by the protector, and, especially in the case of tempered glass ones, your default panel could escape unscathed. That's not all screen protectors are good for, though, as they also protect from nicks and scratches, and some also diminish the reflectance, which bodes well for sunlight visibility.

That's why we askеd you last week if you use any type of screen protection for your handset, and only 39% of our 2824 respondents say they are living on the edge, taking life as it comes (or, maybe, rocking more affordable handsets). A full 32% of them, though, marked using the more expensive and durable glass protector for protecting their precious, while 29% go with plastic ones.

After 4 years of using my 4S without any protector, it has 2 minor scratches so considering that GG got even better I dare to say that having screen protector makes no sense. It gets scratched itself and looks awful, and it doesn't save screen from cracking after falling

I have plastic case for 4S and case is scratched like hell so I would say it does pretty good job. Unfortunately my 4S dropped into water and now screen isnt working even though I putted it into rice for more than 30hours. I still have 4g though.

My brother also got 4S and he has screen protector, it's scratched as hell and mine is in great condition. Seems like plastic gets scratched way more than Gorilla Glass.

I have to say the tempered glass looks great on my phone and doesn't scratch like most others.

I bought my m9 last monday. Got a screen protector on saturday and ended up remkving it just this morning. I hate screen protectors, they make the phone look old and it has reflection and a real fingerprint magnet. I felt like i wasted money for one

Try a tempered glass screen protector with 9H hardness and oleophobic coating. It feels exactly like the glass on the phone, doesn't scratch and no fingerprints due to oleophobic coating. I have two applied on my S6( one on front and one on back). At least I'm not worried if my phone drops on hard floor.

I had one on my S4, don't remeber the hardness but saved my phone many times before breaking.

Tempered glass is way better than plastic screen protectors. Not to mention how tough it is and doesn't even get a scratch.

Never liked screen protectors. The only time I used one, was when I dropped my iPhone 5, and broke the screen. That was for a few days, so I didn't cut my fingers before Apple replaced the whole phone.

Because I buy factory unblocked phones. I upgrade every 3 to 4 months. Selling my old ones. I will not go without a case and screen protector. I usually use a glass one. The better ones look and feel just like the phones screen.

"(or, maybe, rocking more affordable handsets)"... In my case it's not that, as you point out, the display is the most important part of every smartphone, as such I don't want my experience with it be ruined by cheap plastic/glass over it. I trust enough the hardened glass that comes with my phone by design.
