Just in case it wasn’t already abundantly clear how much Huawei loves its notches nowadays, it seems the world’s second-largest smartphone vendor is preparing to release another two Honor-branded devices with two different kinds of screen cutouts.

The names of these handsets and their exact specifications are currently under wraps, and ironically, they’re both rumored to follow in the footsteps of the popular Honor 7X. Obviously, they can’t both be the Honor 8X, so one of them could see daylight as Honor 8S or even Honor 8X Max.

Recently certified by Tenaa, aka China’s FCC-equivalent agency, the “ARE-AL00” model looks fairly sleek for a budget-friendly mid-ranger, as well as awfully familiar. There’s nothing particularly notable about its dual rear-facing camera setup or the position and shape of that conventional fingerprint sensor, but the iPhone X-inspired notch is... not really inspired by Apple’s trend-setting design.

Instead, it appears to borrow heavily from Oppo’s ingenious new “waterdrop” solution to the age-old bezel-reducing conundrum. A small V-shaped cut should allow the Honor 8X to squeeze even more usable screen real estate than its predecessor into a similarly compact body. Unless the other device is actually the 8X, in which case Huawei’s sub-brand is likely to adopt a look closely resembling the company’s Nova 3 and 3i.

Those two come with significantly wider notches, as well as a hot new Kirin 710 processor also expected to power the Honor 8X. Speculation accompanying the apparent leak of this mysterious handset’s front panel and screen protector further calls for an expansive 6.5-inch size, respectable 3,500 mAh battery, and extremely reasonable CNY 1,299 ($188 or so) starting price.

Of course, official Honor 8X US availability is probably in the cards too, with a similar $200 price point as the 7X.
