New Search button to allow choice between Google and Yahoo for iPhone OS 4.0
The other day, we reported that in the new iPhone OS 4.0, the Google name has been removed from the blue button used to start a search and replaced with the generic term "Search". At the time, the theory was that Apple would be looking to replace Google in the not too distant future, perhaps by using Bing as the default search engine. After going through the OS, the guys at MobileCrunch have discovered a better reason. It seems that the new OS will allow iPhone users to switch between Google and Yahoo for their search needs. Also, the new software supports Google Suggest which shows you possible search results even as you type in your request. Yahoo has a similar feature called Yahoo Suggestions. Those hoping for tension between Apple and Google will have to keep hoping because the new operating system contains more Google features than ever before.
