Motorola Photon 4G with WiMAX and Tegra 2 to be announced at Sprint/Moto event on June 9th
The Motorola Photon 4G is the mysterious device that will take the spotlight at the Sprint/Motorola event on June 9th, according to information from “very well positioned source,” quoted on TechnoBuffalo. The Photon 4G is not just a regular Android – it packs a dual-core Tegra 2 chip and WiMAX connectivity, and looks much like the Atrix 4G for AT&T. Combine this with whispers about a device codenamed “Sunfire” with both WiMAX and GSM connectivity for global roaming, and you get the nearly full profile of the heavyweight about to join Sprint’s lineup.

In terms of pure specs, we’re looking at:
-    4.3-inch qHD (540 x 960) screen,
-    1 GB of RAM,
-    8MP camera.

When it comes to software, the Photon 4G will hit shelves with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the latest of MotoBLUR skinning, which you can see on the DROID X2. Designwise, the handset flaunts a soft-grip metal back and a metal kickstand.

Did we mention it’s coming with an Atrix-like Laptop Dock? No details about pricing and whether the dock will also be compatible with the Motorola Atrix 4G, but you won’t have to wait too long to find out – the Photon 4G’s aims for a release date in July.

Wow another winner for Sprint! Sprint looks to be going full speed ahead. I see they are getting some blazing hot phones. This phone makes Verizon's Droid Bionic look like it's little brother! Wow Sprint with the #1 customer service in the mobile business in the U.S., its 4G WiMAX that looks to be upgraded to LTE, the list of insane hot phones, & this is "speculation" but they indeed may get the world's first quad-core phone running Android Ice Cream on a 4G network in the form of the Nexus 3. Its never been a better time to be a Sprint customer. I am so happy with Sprint. I love that they are coming out with guns blazing. They truly are making their phones future proof & are taking care of their customers! Sprint looks to have a HUGE year!

Lucas777 do you have Sprint? If you don't then how can you speculate on the coverage? I have had great Sprint coverage in every town/city I have ever been to. You name it I have been there on business. I left At&t in '06 & all the places I didn't have service with At&t I have service with Sprint. "But sprint coverage kinda sucks" really? Just like At&t has HSPA+ to fall back on while they get their LTE up, why can't Sprint do the same with WiMAX when they implement LTE in the future? You said "and if u buy wimax now, it won't get 4g later...", what on Earth are you talking about? Dude if you don't know WiMAX is 4G. You are dumber than Forest Gump. Lucas777 you got to be kidding me. lol This is so funny how weak your post is. Take it from someone who is a professional & needs his phone as a lifeline to what he does for a living, Sprint is more than capable. I use my phone for work not to play games on it like you do. With Sprint I have no caps on data, no drastic data slow downs, no outages like LTE, & all for a cheap price, what else needs to be said?

PA, you guys know it will likely not get the version of Blur found on Verizon's Droids as history has shown it's stayed exclusive to Verizon. even AT&T's own Atrix 4G doesn't have it. it might be somewhat similar though, i haven't seen Gingerbread with any of the traditional Blur builds running on top of it.

Good point about blur and even the Atrix 4G not having it. I think this is related more to Android build deployment delays from additional testing and bugs because of Android fragmentation than due to any Verizon leverage on exclusivity of motoblur...

Verizon, do you see this?! Now that's a future proof phone. What do you give us... Single core processors, 512 MHz RAM, 800 x 400 screens, no 4G, and Android 2.2? VZW started kicking some major ass with their phone selections once the Droids came. But now it seems that since the iPhone made it to the lineup, the Android section there is getting watered down. Not saying the Droid X2 isnt nice but really? Is this the best you can do? Sure the DX2 has better spec than what I listed but it's still old news when compared to some of these other phones with other carriers coming out. Get it together VZW, quick!

I agree with all these nice devices coming none for Verizon. What's up with that! I guess its the moto their sticking with reliable network first who cares what phones they have for consumers as long as you can talk where ever you are.

Verizon is out of cash and spending everything they have on LTE expansion. I am not suprised they blew their load getting the iPhone and opened up more opportunities for other carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint to lock up first or exclusive deals. The little guys have long needed to differentiate themselves more by offering unique or early adoption hardware to attract more customers...

Actually, the Bionic moved from VZW to Sprint.... Moto got pissed when VZW gave it's love to the iPhone, and yanked the Bionic from VZW.

I doubt that. If that was true, then what has Motorola launched the Droid X2?

This gets me so mad at vzw.... I'm stuck here waiting for the complete package cuz I want a decent signal in the bay area

Verizon, You listening? And don't be such a hard tail on tethering like AT&T and you will reap the benefits. The Big Red V irs on top but its easier to fall from there.

Omg I put all those specs in my blog the other day when they said it was going to have a 4.3 inch screen I said i hope they add an 8 mp camera with 1080P recording now if they just leave the 16gb internal memory with the additional 32 from the sd card and THIS PHONE COULD GO ALL THE WAY!!

Although qHD might be the next big thing when it comes to screen resolution size, the pixel density is still less on larger screens than it would be on a smaller scree. My Evo Shift has almost the same pixel density as the "Motorola Photon 4G", although the resolution is higher on the "Motorola Photon 4G".

Announcing a device and actually delivering upon it is like having a girl scream in my ear at a concert before the band ever gets on the stage. Motorola if you have taught me anything it is to not sacrifice productivity on the possibility of a device being released on a specified date and the device being delivered problem free. Sad to say that it has become more of a disappointment to be an early adopter, like a kid on Christmas with no batteries around and all the stores closed, with all the problems associated and not addressed with new the tech products.

An awesome phone does you no good when you don't get service!! I can't get service in the small town in Wiscosnin with sucky sprint or att. Verizon wins hands down not only cause they have the best and will have the best 4g network in the us, but because you can get service everywhere..small towns included. If you want to compete with (vzw), sprint and att, expand your towers so service can be used in small town america!!!!

You are off topic dumbass. Who cares about you and your stupid small town in "Wiscosnin"? Which by the way; you can't even spell correctly.
