Instagram for Android can now brag with over 5 million downloads
Instagram for Android already showed the first signs that it will become immensely popular by scoring one million downloads on day one, and now it reached another milestone - 5 million downloads in a mere six days.

And the app focusing on vintage filters didn’t even need that to get noticed. Facebook already announced it’s paying $1 billion for the company, that months ago seemed like nothing more than a big start-up.

Up until six days ago, Instagram was an iOS-only affair, so it bears pointing out that Apple’s platform alone basically gave it the value it has. But Android might soon surpass its popularity. At 5 million for six days, Instagram has kept a steady growth of nearly 1 million downloads per day.

On March 24th, when it went up for pre-order, there were 430,000 people opting to download the application before it was released. That’s telling, isn’t it? Are you using the Instragram on Android and how do you like it? Share your opinions below.

I think it means that they should not IGNORE android. I think they should dev for iOS first then Android. The reasoning is: 1) get it out of the way quick and easy 2) it will allow a massive build up of elitist hipster following so that when the Android version drops, there is massive whiney table flipping complaining resulting in awesome, free exposure for the app and dev, thus leading to incredible downloads on android. 3) profit.

That would make android users followers. They want what iPhone users have.

False. Trust me, I have NO desire to be part of the ios circlejerk. Honestly, my initial reaction to instagram on Android was "Great, facebook is going to be flooded with even more s**tty over vignetted pictures or trees."

how many apps are android ONLY that are popular?.................ok i'll wait................................................................. EXACTLY the smartest thing to do is what other comments on here have suggested... iPhone is "popular" make the app for iOS first then once it gains hype release it for android... = Billion dollar success... as simple as that... (angry birds, words with friends, draw something, temple run, instagram, tumblr... just to name a few)

I have downloaded it a few days back just for curiosity sake, after though rough usage for a day I still don't get what's the fuss about this app anyways. Pixrl o matic for example is way better than this heralded app in my own opinion. . .
