Google Assistant learns new tricks on the Nvidia SHIELD

1comment

Google Assistant was introduced on the Nvidia SHIELD in 2017, and although the experience wasn't as full and well-rounded as on other platforms, Assistant on the SHIELD has slowly been learning and growing.

According to a recent blog post by Nvidia, Assistant on the SHIELD can now send messages to other Assistant-enabled devices in your home, such as Google smart speakers. For example, if you want someone to join you on the couch for some Netflix, you can say "OK Google, broadcast that it’s time to watch TV," and this will send a voice message to all Google Home and Google Mini devices in your home. Neat!

Another new feature enables the SHIELD to stream footage from any connected security cameras to your TV. For example, if you own a Nest or a Logitech Circle, you can say "Hey Google, show me my front door camera on SHIELD" and you'll get direct footage from the camera on your TV.

Furthermore, Nvidia claims that NHIELD TV with Google Assistant can now work with smart home devices from more than 150 brands, including  Ecobee Thermostats, LG SmartThinQ appliances, and others.
