Edging closer to a U.S. launch, Canada's Bell to release the Samsung Galaxy S II July 21st
Ask 10 cell phone fanatics what the hot phone is at the moment, and most likely the majority would reply, the Samsung Galaxy S II. But the phone has yet to be introduced in the U.S. which means all we have is a rumor that three four of the nation's top four carriers are getting the phone to launch. The good news is that the device is moving closer to the U.S. territory with a July 21st launch expected for Canadian's Bell.

Originally, we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S II would be released by Bell on July 14th, but a leaked screenshot of what appears to be internal carrier communications on a web site now shows the launch coming a week later. The word is that the carrier expects huge demand for the phone and does not want to launch it only to run out of stock so fast.

So now it is back to playing the waiting game for U.S. smartphone users who have already penciled in the device as their next handset. Those with a upgrade burning a hole in their pocket might need some professional help to make sure that they don't cave and end up with a new model that they don't really want. Still no word on pricing from Bell, but we have a feeling that sometime in the next 9 days we will find out what the price tag reads on the Bell version of the Samsung Galaxy S II.

I really think AT&T will be the first to get this phone. Which is awesome :)

That would make sense, because AT&T uses GSM like Bell, and not CDMA like the others. It's nice but we bought 2 I9000M (Bell) phones last year. Both are running 2.3.3 & 2.3.4 Gingerbread (thank you, XDA!), and have most of the goodness of the Bell SGS2, 'cept the 4G would be nice.. I'm sitting this one out til Christmas, I smell new hotness coming out by then.

is it bell or rogers that shares the same 3g/4g signals with Tmobile? i can never remember. I might just buy one full retail and unlock the thing.. tired of waiting!!

Bell has gone to the same as Rogers: the same as AT&T for 4G (HSPA+). You'll need a SIM card for these phones.

Well I live in mexico in mexico city and telcel took this phone out a looong ass time ago very at a cheap price 250 pesos not expensive at all on the amigo plan I'm getting bored of it. The only thing I like is the dual core processor which makes the phone really fast and the 2 megapixel front facing camera which is great for video calls. Its a great phone I admit internet is fast well I guess that depends on ur carrier and were u live, I get 8-10 mbps daily on telcels hspa+ network, video calling works over 3g no wifi required.so I recommend this phone but I'm movin on to a 3d phone when ever they come to mexico, we still haven't gotten any lol. Criticize me all u want I dnt care :) I want a 3d phone.....

finally, someone who shares my mediocre opinion about the SGS2. it doesn't even look like that great of a phone but 90% of PA users are getting their panties in a bunch over it. I say next phone please...

Yup, it's like getting excited of jessica alba....almost boring. Would not put her in my top 1000. Galaxy s2 plastic iphone clone with a defective screen which is hidden somewhat by over saturated colors for all the blind kids here. Benchmarks overrated because of ancient resolution. s**tty battery, s**tty wifi signal, s**tty gps, no led notification, etc.

Have either of you tools even touched the phone yet? Neither have US customers, but the specs indicate this phone to be a world-beater in nearly every facet Sounds more like CRICKETownz is a bit jealous to never see the SGS2 on his pre-paid plan that "ownz" Pay attention to the Z in "ownz"

so I'm a tool bc i don't like what you like? typical PA close-minded poster. if you don't agree with them they thumb you down. personally I like the current Samsung offerings over this overhyped phone. I'd prefer the Fascinate, Charge, Captivate or the Infuse over this any day. PS wumberpeb17 - its only a screen name little buddy. that prepaid joke produced not one "lol" so obviously comedy is not your gift. it's just a phone bro & its not even all that great, why would I be jealous?

you don't even know what your talking about the battery is better than any phone that has come out this year and they fixed all gps and wifi issues apparently you haven't even looked at the phone.

$599.95 on a no-contract and it’s expected the 3-year price will be $169.95. http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/07/12/bell-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-4g-officially-launching-july-21st/

haha same i have google alerts on samsung galaxy s 2 us release date i check everyday and its starting to get kind of depressing.

12. What Edging Closer!? unregistered

This is a Canada launch, which has nothing to do with US release. Just another day gone by waiting. This is getting ridiculous...

13. dj unregistered

why does phonearena keep saying that a canadian release means its any closer to a us release. there is absolutely no connection. it should read every day that passes its "edging closer to a us launch" it takes time for sprint to add a keyboard to this device

A few days ago they were talking about a July 24th release in US but i don't think thats gonna be happening. We'd be lucky if it gets here by Mid-August. I just hope it gets here as soon as possible, specially on Sprint.

This wait is brutal, and while I keep searching for alternatives (i.e. HTC, Nexus, Google, Motorola) and replaying YouTube video video reviews and reading re-reading spec sheets, there is no way in the world I'm going to select anything else. If I succumbed to my impatience, I know I would regret it every single day for the next three years. That would be brutal x 10. Can't do it...won't do it.
