Apple iPad 2 Photo & Video Samples
Initially, it’s a little bit difficult to fathom seeing people whipping out their iPad 2 from underneath their jacket or something to quickly snap a candid shot, but it’s nonetheless nice to see the functionality now on board with the tablet. Since we’ve been checking out Apple’s latest creation, we decided to simply share with you some snapshots that we took to better illustrate and break down its quality.

For starters, the one annoyance we have using the camera interface is the horrendous placement of the shutter key when you’re holding the iPad 2 in landscape. Naturally, our first instinct is to grasp the iPad 2 on its sides with both hands to provide ample grip, but unfortunately, the shutter key is placed squarely towards the bottom middle of the interface – and too far to comfortably reach with our thumbs. However, it’s not much of an issue in portrait since we obviously use both hands to hold onto the bottom edge of the iPad 2.

As for the rest of the interface, it’s pretty much a direct port of what’s used on the iPhone 4, but instead of finding touch focus, we’re treated to something more like touch exposure. Sadly, the iPad 2 shoots photos at the resolution of 960 x 720 pixels – which is the same as the current generation iPod touch. Moreover, it lacks auto-focus to precisely sharpen specific items in your shot – which tends to make close-ups a bit fuzzy looking. Lastly, it does have the ability to shoot videos in 720p at 29 frames per second, but from our quick video, we’re not all that excited by its output. Check out the gallery and tell us your thoughts about the iPad 2’s photo and video shooting abilities.

What, no comparison to the same functions on the Xoom? The Apple H8ers will be screaming that this is the latest example of PA bias.

Looks like the exact same results as the iPhone 4 camera, i.e., not good at all. Photo's are over exposed and colors are off. Audio during video recording is decent, but not great at all. It has a lot of problems dealing with light changes too. Maybe my N8 has spoiled me though.

Are you guys kidding me? The quality really isn't all that bad (except for the shot taken inside of Best Buy). For a tablet PC, the video was actually quite clear; especially considering that 720p recording on devices outside of dedicated cameras are still in their infancy.

Are you blind? Those images are horrible. My 2005 Sony Ericsson feature phone gave pictures better than that.

Stop defending Apple's poor quality.

The photos are only good enough for internet positing. This assumes that they are not viewed at the native size and resolution. Simply, these are eye sores. Only the objects at a certain distance away in the video look reasonable. The video and photos are probably acceptable on the 3.5" iPhone3/4 screen. On the 9.x" IPS LCD of iPad2, the videos and photos are simply UNACCEPTABLE unless for those with IQ and EQ of 10 years old. But then, I should perhaps refrain my self from speaking the truth because Steve Job would knock at my door and tell me "you don't know how video and photo should be looked at and judged". Sorry, Steve, I should be more humble and learn from you before opening my mouth!

Yeah, that's some high quality hardware Apple is putting out these days. Man, if I hear one more comparison of the iPad to a Ferrari I'm going to loose it!

Low quality. . . nothing else to say, apple!

It's just their way of slow pitching themselves the next upgrade to keep the drones buying. They always shortchange their customers by intentionally leaving features out/putting in crap like this camera knowing full well they could have included it and then planning it as an "upgrade" Only an idiot would keep falling for it time after time. I mean, the freaking iphone came out as 2G almost a decade after 3g was the norm. Pathetic.

Steve Job is really good. After he had built up a posiitive perception, he can tweak the product by offering incremental change @ the minimum cost. As long as he is able to hold the preception and as long as the competition do not catch up to the core values (usability, business models), he can pobably keep the minimalist approach for several generation. At the same time, the competition have only themselves to blame. Perception cannot be created in a short time, it has to be fostered over a considerable length of time. Seriously, consumers are the only one to loose because we are paying a lot of premium :(

More evidence it's just a high priced ipod. Nothing watchable. Nothing usable. Pathetic scamera.

I guess working for Phonearena doesn't pay much...Don't take it the wrong way because I'm not trying to act superior. After all, this guy makes more than me because I'm an unemployed troll. Just an observation...

I deff live up to my sn on here and even I was incredibly disappointed with the new iPad. The camera quality is absolute garbage, no ifs ands or buts about it. The xoom has a decent camera, the tabs do okay... but for me apple REALLY dropped the ball. Sad to say, but it looks like I will stick to the iPad 1 until the 3 comes out. Great job on the crap you call the iPad 2, apple.
