AT&T's dual-screen ZTE Axon M launches on November 1

AT&T just announced that the ZTE Axon M, a brand new smartphone unveiled a couple of weeks back, will be available to order online starting November 1 (this Wednesday). The device will hit AT&T stores a bit later, on November 17.

Exclusively offered by AT&T in the US, the ZTE Axon M is a foldable, clamshell-type handset that sports two 5.2-inch 1080p screens. Thanks to a feature called Dual Mode, the new smartphone allows you to use its two displays for different tasks simultaneously. For example, you can watch a music video on one screen, and check the weather, or catch up with a friend on the second one.

Other highlight features of the ZTE Axon M include dual speakers with Dolby Audio, a 20 MP camera with 4K "motions stabilization," 4GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor (this isn't exactly a new processor, but it's still powerful enough).

AT&T will let customers order the new handset for $24.17 per month for 30 months, or $725 outright. To get a closer look at the smartphone, you should check out our ZTE Axon M hands-on.

The Axon M will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. We're assuming that an update to Android 8 Oreo will be available at some point, though, for now, there is no official word on this. So, any future ZTE Axon M owners here?

I wonder if Microsoft's new device will be something similar with a pen input?

BIG mistake tying this to ONLY at&t. Why? History... In 2010, Dell came out with the Streak 5, a 5" touch screen smartphone. If you remember, all phones then, were less than 4" screen size. I bought one direct from Dell. Loved it! Great battery life too! But, tied to at&t, they NEVER promoted it, advertised it, marketed it. Why? They had their heads so wrapped around the iPhone, they didn't care. It died not too long after release. I think the same thing will happen to this phone. Neat idea, but, allowing it to be branded with the blue globe only, means pretty much certain doom!

If you buy the phone at full retail, you can immediately unlock it from AT$T's website.

But AT&T might require the phone to be used on their network for a certain amount of time before they would consider unlocking the phone.
