Verizon iPhone 4 broke the record for biggest first day sales in Verizon's history between 3AM and 5AM
Well, that was fast. It took the Verizon iPhone 4 just two hours - between 3AM and 5AM - to record the biggest first day sales (of any device) in Verizon's history.

As we informed you, Big Red is no longer accepting pre-sale orders for its iPhone 4. That's a sad news for these of you who are eager to taste this much-anticipated version of the iPhone, but didn't manage to order one between 3AM and 5AM. Anyway, February 9 is just around the corner, but we are sure it simply can't come fast enough for you.

It took Verizon 3.5 years to bring the iPhone to its customers, but their patience was finally rewarded. Did you manage to get one?

I just can't believe how many Apple idiots there are. The a lot of 4G smartphones coming out in the next coming month if not weeks, and they are paying for old technology. I'm confused.

Not everyone "needs" the latest most advanced phone. I personally like Android and have the Droid Incredible. However my wife wants a "cool" phone that can do all the apps and web like mine, but she is admittedly a bit of a technophobe. In her case I think the iPhone is the perfect device. She would not want to deal with task killers and battery management the way I have to.

The iphone 5 will not release on VZW until a year from now. ATT updates will be in the summer like always, and VZW will come around the original release date.

Patience is a virtue. Baller's comment above: "want an IPHONE NOW not later" is a vice.

I will wait for 4G because Verizon's 3G is as slow as a s*it coming out of a horse's a*s (if you've ever observed this). It takes me 5 minutes to look up a few articles on PhoneArena on my Verizon 3G phone. Reminds me of the late 90's trying to load Yahoo.com on my dialup connection.

Why would people buy a 3G device??? And stuck on a 2 year contract????

"It's worth it" or "free to do as they please" are not reasons..... The difference between humans and all other animals is that we reason (Aristotle, 300 BC). So, what's your reason for getting the iPhone???? A reason would be: "people would want to buy a 3G device because they love the easy to use Apple operating system, love the ease of using iTunes, the iPhone screen is among the best out there, battery life is excellent, love the apps, and don't mind 3G Verizon data speeds because they're adequate for me".....

My specific reason for not getting the iPhone (and I've strongly considered it) is that I don't want 3G data speeds for the next 2 years. I want to be on the Verizon network because the calling reliability is superb, and waiting for the HTC Thunderbolt, hopefully to launch on February 14th!

The most successful Android phone sold 250,000 in the first week. They are guessing at 500-600 thousand Iphone preorders in less than 24 hours so your logic is not too impressive.

By "better network" you mean "better in your area." If you want to talk about ignorance, let's talk about that blanket statement you just made that could be proven wrong by millions, yes, millions of AT&T customers who live in a better AT&T coverage area than VZW's and can prove it using FACTS, like data speed, coverage footprint, dropped call ratio (in their specific area) and things like that. PROVE to me it's a better network overall.

better data speeds in your area you mean. HMMM my proof is that VZW has more customers than ATT. Especially when the iphone comes out on the 10th ATT will be blown away. I feel bad for you being stuck with ATT, or at least I assume you are the way you defended your network that still has 2G in most places. ATT needs to focus on completing 3G before they try 4G.

I'm not with AT&T but thanks for assuming. You know what they say about assumptions. VZW doesn't have more customers than AT&T, and if you were up to date with current events that were reported (on this site of all places), you'd know that. VZW (before the iPhone sale) was trailing by about 2.5 million which might change after the iPhone sale but we don't have the hard numbers to confirm it yet. And yes, AT&T does have 2G in most places, and 3G is SLIGHTLY less implemented. When they come out with 4G, it'll be greased lightning fast provided the coverage supports it. I DIDN'T say AT&T was better overall. In fact, they are prolly equal overall based on different factors each weighed and averaged. They each have their pros and cons, but it's stupid to make a blanket statement like "the better network." It's only better IN SOME PLACES just AT&T's network is better ONLY IN SOME PLACES.

posted on 04 Feb 2011, 12:14 2

46. DaveyJE24 (Posts: 54; Member since: 02 Feb 2011)

and if you were following your reports you would know that when ATT reported its total number of customers that they included mobile broadband laptops and tablets and even ppl not in contract. Verizon only reported its contract customers. But when they reported what ATT did they actually had over 102 million customers compared to ATT's 95 million give or take 2 million. And now with this I phone coming out its only making the gap larger. Sry but Verizon is better overall, not equal with ATT lol so how about you get your facts straight. oh and you welcome for assuming.

Sorry, but they're not better overall. You didn't cite any source other than "your reports" for that comment. Therefor based on lack of proof I'm dismissing that argument. Shoot me a link and we'll put it back in play. Other than that, you still refuse to acknowledge the fundamental fact that the networks can only claim dominance upon customers' evaluation of the network IN SPECIFIC AREAS, not as a whole. You haven't used EITHER network EVERYWHERE they are available and therefor haven't got even a broken hind leg to stand on to say VZW is better overall.

so let me get this straight...you are debating demanding "facts" but you post a link from a website who gets their info from other sources and often times puts the "unofficial information" disclaimer as a header to the majority of their articles. Hmm...interesting. Are you on planet Earth with the rest of us? he doesnt need to provide proof...there are several websites that compare network reliability between all 4 major carriers. Pick one...the "fact" that Verizon outshines everyone else with their OVERALL network is plastered all over them. these are 3rd party companies. Your argument is At&t is a better OVERALL network based on area-specific performance? LOL. you have to be a stand up comedian. practice what you preach and cite facts instead of trying to play mr. know-it-all and repeat information you really havent fully investigated. jesus christ.

This website cites their sources at the bottom of every article and you can trace them for yourself. Disclaimers are common to avoid charges of slander. And yes, if you're going to claim one is better than the other, you need to provide PROOF. Oh, and your poor scholarship is showing. I never said AT&T was better overall, but did claim that IN SOME PLACES AT&T has better coverage than VZW and the converse is true. I'm not a know-it-all, but I do insist on folks having common sense if you're going to argue a point., One more thing, you might want to figure out who Jesus is before you use his name so lightly, punk.

Asking for decent proof isn't an excuse. Your "proof" is a dead end link to an article featuring a photo that's scarcely readable, and doesn't have a URL in it to verify that it's real. Instead of accusing me of making excuses try getting concrete proof. Try not being lazy if you're going to pursue this debate and insist you're right. I already did my side of the homework. Fail. You mean VZW is larger. "Better" is a matter of opinion. AT&T isn't going anywhere any time soon whether you "win" or not. Besides, Alltel (practically non-existant anymore) was twice the company VZW will ever be. If anyone was "better," they were. They never got the sheer number of customers, no, but their customer service was the best of any wireless carrier bar none with decent coverage to boot. If only they were still around in larger numbers. They still exist in a handful of areas. Anyway, I call it like I see it. YOU make sensational and moronic statements about VZW being the best, when it's not true for everyone. That's why I called you a moron. Also, it took two tries to produce a believable source. You're lazy. Enjoy your "victory."

Are you entertained? I'm glad I could be of service. Let's hear your definition of "best overall." I'd love to hear it. You refuse to even elaborate on what you say, which leaves little doubt that you don't have anything uselful to say. Chew on this: You know as well as I do that the majority of AT&T's customers are iPhone customers, and that iPhones historically have poorer reception than any other manufacturer, bar none. That's mainly due to iPhone's data-hungry preference for 3G over 2G and that you have to manually disable 3G. Do that and the crappy antenna in the iPhones will get a better signal in 2G and virtually erase the problem of dropped calls for most AT&T iPhone customers. 2G is reliable, and 3G is fast (where coverage for 3G is good). That being said, if the majority of customers with AT&T have iPhones and don't manually switch to 2G for calling (cuz they don't know how or are unaware of the capability) then of course they complain about the coverage and dropped calls. They don't know how to use what they bought. Guess what the majority of VZW customers will soon be... wait for it... iPhone users! So, logic follows that if Apple was unwilling to improve its antenna technology for each new iPhone they released, then they won't improve it for any new model either. Any effort they will put into that will be marginal at best. If the same flaw is present on the VZW version of the iPhone then over time as VZW groans under the weight of tons of new customers who don't know how to optimally use their iPhone and are data-crazed they'll realize they weren't as prepared as they thought. Unlimited data will be targeted for removal, as we know, and they're already "throttling" those who are in the top 5% of data users. AT&T doesn't even do that to high users. If a company is going to be better overall it should include their coverage, customer service, company policies (including contract terms and conditions), and billing practices. VZW has a reputation of nickle-and-diming their customers, while the worst thing you have on AT&T is dropped calls (for reasons discussed above.)
