Report: Apple iPad Air 2 will have a gold version
Apple’s been selling gold-colored iPhones since last year, but there are no golden iPads to match them yet. Fret not, though, because the next-generation iPad Air (quite possibly called iPad Air 2) will have a gold version - according to Bloomberg and sources "familiar with the matter." Mind you, it's not the first time we're hearing about this.

Bloomberg reports that the new iPaid Air’s gold version will be available alongside grey and silver models. This way, the tablet will have the same color scheme of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPad Air 2 could be officially announced in October - thus one year after the original iPad Air was introduced. Feature-wise, the tablet should offer Touch ID, an A8 processor, and 2 GB of RAM. The screen will be a 9.7-inch one (it remains to be seen if the resolution will be increased from the 2048 x 1536 pixels one offered by the first-gen iPad Air).

We’re really curious to find out if the new iPad Air will be significantly thinner than the first-generation model (it’s certainly possible, since both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are thinner than previous models). But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when Apple finally announces the tablet.

Gold is such a soft metal, all the easier to bend.... lol, j/k. I know it's not real gold, and the whole Bendgate thing was the result of the phone "allegedly" bending it people's pockets. As pockets will not be an option, I'm sure "I hope" that we won't hear stories about nitwits going into Apple stores trying to bend the display models.

I can't be the only one who just isn't as excited with tablet announcements any more. The tablets already on the market do amazing things, are light, thin, and have great battery life. All the new tablets do is eeeeevvvvvvveeeeeerrrrr so slightly build on what came before.

That's all well and good, but a tablet is something that rarely needs replacing. Just feels like tablet updates have become standard and easy to guess. Until they accomplish something special that a larger screen phone cannot, news like this just sounds old by the time it's published :(.

I kinda feel what you're saying.. I got an iPad3 as a birthday gift (it was latest and new then) and it still does everything new tablets - My main purpose is entertainment - Games and Movies (RR3 is best on the iPad, and "C&C" type games), I also mix my own DubStep music and make movies using iMovie and other apps. At work, I put together estimates/invoices (with blueprints that I make right on the iPad) and I can fax, or print right from customers house printer. So far iPad/iPhone combo has not been limiting even though my iPad is couple of generations old - still runs iOS 8 smooth and crisp and with new iCloud Drive it's seamless when I need someone else to edit something on the documents from the office before presenting it all to customer... (I was able to before with calibration tools in Pages, but having files accessible by any PC from anywhere is a huge improvement.

All in all, the old ipads are a keeper...

I think Apple hit themselves in the ass when they built a future proof product like my iPad - and not much can be improved on it.

How about a silver back and black front?
Would be a perfect combination.

Aren't they are already doing that?

The back of space gray model is a dark gray color which neither looks as sleek as silver back nor stylish as pure black.
I wish they'd make the front bezels black colored regardless the color variant.

YES YES YES! I think the white and gold models need black fronts (not white)... But imagine Gold and Black instead of Gold and White... That would be really sick..

In all honesty, I can't find any justification in buying any tablet from Apple, Google, or Microsoft... I'm content with my Smartphone and Desktop computer.

Wait until you actually use one. My desktop is permanently connected to my hd tv now and my smartphone is strictly when I am out. Everything else is tablet and it's a way better experience.

You are so right, my PC is collecting dust (not literally), my iPad has taken up 85% of my PC time...

If you're a hardcore "power user" then a tablet can't replace a full fledged PC. Normal users can get by perfectly.

But nothing's like a 24"+ monitor with a mechanical keyboard and 2.1 sound system. I had tablet but sold it for some more PC upgrades :)

I'll rather just have a huge smartphone + mini supercomputer at home. And I might consider picking up a Surface Pro 3 as a laptop / tablet hybrid.

I agree with you completely... I used to build, modify and you name it. But these days, got a family, house, business (contractor) and a project car - not much time for a power user to tinker with PC's...

I used to create a lot on photoshop back in my day, iPad is so much better to draw and edit on... I now have different pencils, pens and brushes for my iPad - it's taking photoshop to a different level (not better just different) - and considering that adobe photoshop these days cost as much as a cheap project car - iPad apps are a much more sensible approach for a hobbyist in that category...

Yeah, if you're building a rig just for primarily gaming it's hard to justify the cost and time when other things have to be taken care of.

I guess I'm blessed that my job requires high-end gear, so... I just did what naturally had to be done haha.

You know what I have been having fun with? Cases, primarily ATX... You ever seen those themed cases for certain games, well, they're not themed, but using MC cables, parts from house fans, and engine components, led lights and a little know how in metal fab - it's fun. Stil trying to perfect the rusting look using acidic mixtures on raw metal (or just throw it in the yard for the winter)...

But as usual, I got a 944 sitting with a blown head gasket that needs love, and soon a wide body... so, priorities.

I can't really see a reason to upgrade to this over the iPad Air. Buying apps will be easier with a Touch ID but I wouldn't trust it enough for online shopping and storing credit cards.

Gold would be really nice on an iPad, when it already looks nice on smartphone. Although I doubt it would much of an upgrade (in terms of the tablet) so might just stick to a Tab S 10.5 white back with gold trim.

Upgrade to this if you have iPad2. A 4-year upgrade cycle for tablets is just enough.

Even my iPad 2 still works well, no real reason to upgrade despite it having slowed recently (still on iOS 7 too!), I use it for internet, films, music etc while working away mainly so I don't really need power performance from it. I think tablets have basically replaced laptops for most that have them so not generally used for serious gaming but more "media consumption".

I'm keeping my iPad Air white 32gb. I hardly use my MBA. Lol!
I'll wait til Apple comes up with a new design for iPads.
