Nokia Glance updated with Windows Phone 8.1 support

Nokia Glance updated with Windows Phone 8.1 support
In case you needed another proof that Windows Phone 8.1's coming soon, Nokia updated its Glance app to support the next version of Microsoft’s mobile OS. The app’s official page clearly shows that its newest feature is “support for Windows Phone 8.1”, so there should be no doubt that this is what Microsoft will call the platform’s upcoming iteration.

Earlier this week, Microsoft almost posted the features of Windows Phone 8.1 on its website, only to remove any reference to the new OS shortly after that.

As most Nokia users probably know, Glance is an app that lets you view time and notifications while your handset is in standby mode. The app is free (of course) and can be downloaded at the source link below.

Microsoft will most probably launch Windows Phone 8.1 next month, during, or after its Build Conference that takes place between April 2 and April 4. You can read this article to see what the new version of Windows Phone is supposed to bring us.

Comeback?
Battle?

"Looks like I've overestimated your intelligence. "
You're in no position to estimate anyone's intelligence, considering the fact that you support WP and let Microsoft own you.

"Note: keep in mind that you've admitted to being dumb."

Comeback: you're trying to tell me that you're dumbness is caused by an OS.
Battle: whether or not your source of dumbness is true.

" You're in no position to estimate anyone's intelligence, considering the fact that you support WP and let Microsoft own you."
I don't support any OS. I LIKE, not support. I don't let anyone own me. I like using many MS products (Windows, Skype, Office, etc). I get what I pay for. Other companies do the same. Just because I don't hate the brand you hate doesn't mean that I "let"them own me.

"Where?"
Comment 21 and 25.

"Comeback: you're trying to tell me that you're dumbness is caused by an OS.
Battle: whether or not your source of dumbness is true."
I'm trying to tell the OS is dumb, and you assume this, along with another assumption.

"I like using many MS products (Windows, Skype, Office, etc)"
I don't see WP there.

"I get what I pay for."
You DON'T get what you pay for (WP).

"Just because I don't hate the brand you hate doesn't mean that I "let"them own me."
They own you not because you don't share my distaste.

"Comment 21 and 25"

" I'm trying to tell the OS is dumb, and you assume this, along with another assumption."
Read comment 23.

" I don't see WP there."
The products I've listed are owned by MS, I don't let the company own me as you say. If MS owns me, they'd "own"you too.

" They own you not because you don't share my distaste"
They don't own me at all.

" Read again. Those are not statements of admission."

"Read comment 23."
Still doesn't fit into your concept/hypothesis of 'comeback' and 'battle'.

"The products I've listed are owned by MS"
I see that. What i don't see is Windows Phone on that list.

"I don't let the company own me as you say.
If MS owns me, they'd "own"you too."
They would be, if i'm not rebelling, as i do.

"They don't own me at all."
Doesn't appear that way.

"I meant comments 23 and 25."
Still no statements of admission there.

"You haven't read them."
I did.

"You'd accept if you did."
I don't accept because i DID read, for the sake of correctness.

Comment 23 says, " I've been using WP for long."which was a response to " Now you've made yourself look dumber.", which you were trying to say that using WP made you dumber.

" I see that. What i don't see is Windows Phone on that list."
Because I don't use WP. And how does owning a WP mean MS owns the users?

" They would be, if i'm not rebelling, as i do."
They may be owning you, but they certainly don't owe me, even if I have a WP.

" Still no statements of admission there."
I've talked about comment 23. Comment 25 says, "Its not my decision. WP elicits such comments." which is a response to " Your comments, I'm talking about. And such isn't caused by an OS, it's caused by your decision." That is, your decision to own a phone with the OS you hate, caused your dumbness.

"I did".
If you did then you'd accept the fact that you've admitted to being dumb.

"Comment 23 says, " I've been using WP for long."which was a response to " Now you've made yourself look dumber.", which you were trying to say that using WP made you dumber."
Ha! "I've been using WP for long" was to imply that i know what i say/was saying about WP. But you're right. It does dumb the users down.

"If you did then you'd accept the fact that you've admitted to being dumb."
I think i've explained.

"Because I don't use WP."
Then how is it that you "like" the platform, without using it.

"And how does owning a WP mean MS owns the users?"
If one owns a WP phone, a platform which is lacking in many areas and there are clearly other better choices and one which MS severely restricts for certain/whatever reasons, and the user claims/promotes it as a superior platform, they and the ones who believ it, are being tricked by MS.

"They may be owning you"
No. And i explained.

"but they certainly don't owe me, even if I have a WP."
If you had a Windows phone and rebel, then they don't.

"I've talked about comment 23. Comment 25 says, "Its not my decision. WP elicits such comments." which is a response to " Your comments, I'm talking about. And such isn't caused by an OS, it's caused by your decision." That is, your decision to own a phone with the OS you hate, caused your dumbness."
"WP elicits such comments" as in "WP draws comments of hate."
Thats not a statement of admission.

"Ha! "I've been using WP for long" was to imply that i know what i say/was saying about WP. But you're right. It does dumb the users down."
The way you responded, made it seem like using the OS you hate made you dumber. And I did not say that it dumbs the users down, I said "you were trying to say that using WP made you dumber.". Yes you may have been dumbed down, but that is not because of the OS, it's because of your decision.

"I think i've explained."
I've explained, above.

"If one owns a WP phone, a platform which is lacking in many areas and there are clearly other better choices and one which MS severely restricts for certain/whatever reasons, and the user claims/promotes it as a superior platform, they and the ones who believ it, are being tricked by MS."
This is a matter of preference, as well as devices that are "better choices". Most likely, WP users tried other platforms.

"Then how is it that you "like" the platform, without using it."
I didn't say I like the platform.

"No. And I explained"
"If you had a Windows phone and rebel, then they don't."
In your logic, they are more likely to own you since you're actually using the platform, while I'm not.

""WP elicits such comments" as in "WP draws comments of hate.""
Maybe, because The comments are most likely by those who'd hate to see that WP is growing and feeling threatened. And it is your decision that made you dumb.

"Yes you may have been dumbed down, but that is not because of the OS, it's because of your decision."
"But you're right. It does dumb the users down." was a metaphorical statement to emphasize that WP is horrible. If you didn't understand that....

"This is a matter of preference, as well as devices that are "better choices". Most likely, WP users tried other platforms."
I've used every OS and i KNOW Microsoft is playing the users. Which is what i let eveyone know. It is the devices, which Microsoft leverages Nokia for, that are the better choices.

"If you had a Windows phone and rebel, then they don't."
"In your logic, they are more likely to own you since you're actually using the platform, while I'm not."
I own a Windows Phone and i DO rebel. So they don't.

"Maybe, because The comments are most likely by those who'd hate to see that WP is growing and feeling threatened."
Why should i feel threatened for something, that i have been complaining about for lack of features, to improve?
But for now, it is NOT improving.

" I've used every OS and i KNOW Microsoft is playing the users. "
Yes you use WP but how do you know that'?

" I own a Windows Phone and i DO rebel. So they don't."
Can't say that ms "owns" the users because like I said most wp users did try other platforms but many prefer wp more than other platforms.

" I own a Windows Phone and i DO rebel. So they don't."
Yeah but you're wasting time and effort.

"Why should i feel threatened for something, that i have been complaining about for lack of features, to improve?"
For most WP haters the reason is different. As for you, it's because you hate ms and hate to see their platform growing.

" But for now, it is NOT improving."
Update 3 was the most recent.

" Again, i don't see a statement of admittance pointed out by you, to validate your claim."

"That's in your opinIon."
One of the millions that have the same opinion.

Yes you use WP but how do you know that'?
Since i have been using it since the last iteration.

"Can't say that ms "owns" the users because like I said most wp users did try other platforms but many prefer wp more than other platforms."
I'm talking about the ones that shower it with false praises, acting like Microsoft's marketing arm.

"Yeah but you're wasting time and effort."
As long as people know what it really is and don't believe the slanders by WP fans.

"For most WP haters the reason is different. As for you, it's because you hate ms and hate to see their platform growing."
I started hating MS because of WP. But if WP DOES get better, i definitely won't be the one to sulk. I want what i paid for.

"Update 3 was the most recent."
WP8 launched around October 2012. After that, they have released merely 3 updates, which were nothing more than bug fixes. Nokia was the one that added some noticeable changes and not MS. Update 3 was released October 2013. Now its March 2014. The promised WP support period ends soon. If they continue with the current frequency of updates, current WP8 owners won't get to see future updates for their devices, and would have to buy a new device for further updates. Like how they ditched us WP7 users, earlier, like we meant nothing but a target to test/practice on.

No, I was asking how you know that ms is "playing"with the users. Lack of features doesn't make it true. They are bringing in new features.

I see.

Fair enough.

IDK about the updates. But they couldn't get WP7 phones to update. Tho they considered WP7.8.

"An opinion is an opinion."
Like Microsoft, you dismiss it as though it doesn't matter
Its an opinion of millions(more than a billion) that translate into real world marketshare.

"No, I was asking how you know that ms is "playing"with the users. Lack of features doesn't make it true. They are bringing in new features."
They are either playing us, or completely inept in designing a modern mobile phone OS. An example - Seperate volume control is an extremely basic and crucial feature which has been missing since WP7. Its now 3 and half to 4 years since WP7 and we are yet to have that feature. Its been promised for WP8.1, but we only know the announcement date to be april. who knows when we will have a public release, since it has to filter through the OEMs.

"No WP users on PA has had a different opinion ever since you were here."
Meaning?

"IDK about the updates. But they couldn't get WP7 phones to update. Tho they considered WP7.8."
That right there, is improper planning and shows lack of consideration for the users/customers.
You can't design an OS overnight, and since they had to write a shared kernel for all their OS, they must have planned the OS before long.
But for 2010, Microsoft, since they didn't have modern mobile OS back then, wanted to quickly capture marketshare.
So they spat out something quick, relying solely on the unique tile based design, to draw in users. They must have known from the very beginning, that they wouldn't be able to provide continued service to the early adopters. Yet, they went ahead and released it without the mention of future updates, even when asked later on. No good company, that cares about its customers does that.
This brings about another fear, Its about 2 years since WP8 released and there have been only 3 updates, which were merely bug fixes and WP8 still lacks several functionality and does many things wrong. It raises another question, whether Microsoft is going to abandon its customers again.

Assuming that you're saying I refuse to consider the opinion that WP is horrible. It does not matter how many would think so or not. And most Android users may not have used WP, they don't have a opinion.

And, Idk why such features are present but most likely they aren't "playing"with the users.

"Meaning?"
Their opinion have not differentiated since you've been commenting about their OS.

" That right there, is improper planning and shows lack of consideration for the users/customers."
Well they'll might change that, but yeah planning wasn't that good that time.

" No good company, that cares about its customers does that."
But most other "good companies" don't care about their customers as much as MS doesn't.

It does. To Microsoft and its fans.

"And most Android users may not have used WP, they don't have a opinion."
I know several who ditched it and went back to their old platform or a new one.

"And, Idk why such features are present"
The problem is features are NOT present.

"but most likely they aren't "playing"with the users."
You wouldn't know, from across the border.

"Their opinion have not differentiated since you've been commenting about their OS."
The opinion of fanboys remain same, no matter what.

"But most other "good companies" don't care about their customers as much as MS doesn't."
Sure. Microsoft's lack of concern for its customers is so much, that if other companies show half the concern of that quantity, its a lot.
What's more, success is there for the taking for MS.
https://.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/filters/top (add windowsphone at the beginning)
Its a site they created around the time of WP7, to make it seem that they are listening, thereby keep the users from jumping off to another platform.
Its been 4 years for Microsoft to even THINK about implementing very basic features. Inspite of all these suggestions, they take soooo long (its not fixed yet). This shows either they are utterly incompetent, lack concern for its customers, or are delaying purposefully to fill some business ambition, even though it affects the users.

It does to Microsoft. The fans don't care -just like most other fanboys.

I know many who don't mind the OS.

I meant " "And, Idk why such features aren't present"

"
The opinion of fanboys remain same, no matter what."
A lot of users here are fanboys.

But most OEMs don't give the latest updates soon enough and sometimes leave them.

Useful link. Hope MS does something about it. Thinking of buying a WP as a secondary phone.

"A lot of users here are fanboys"
Exactly why i've decided to counter their false claims.

" Hope MS does something about it."
I've been hoping for that too, for nearly 3 years, since WP7.

I'd wait for 8.1 and its reviews (trustable ones), before getting one, even as a secondary phone.
I've identified several stupid/mundane design issues, which is quite annoying/baffling and which the WP fanboys and light users are completely oblivious to.

Yeah, and that's exactly what I was thinking of for my 920... That way I'm not risking voiding that warranty on my 1520... So, it's possible that some of us might be getting 8.1 in less than two weeks!!

I already installed GDR3 preview back when it was released on my 920 so actually my warranty is voided... But does Nokia still know when you install the final OS updates trough OTA? :)
