Benchmarks

Display Benchmarks
The scientific display measurements allow us to inspect the quality of this extremely
mportant component in such a great depth that is not possible with the naked eye. Armed with a
colorimeter device and some specialized software, we study the various aspects of smartphone
and tablet screens, such as their brightness, color temperature, gamma, color gamut and accuracy.
Screen measurements
Our ‘Screen measurements’ table is like
a quick, yet very detailed overview of a display. With just a quick glance, you can discover
a great deal of importantdata, including the maximum brightness, contrast ratio,
gamma, color temperature, etc. Hover over each category to learn more about it and
what makes it important!
Viewing angles
A high-quality display shouldn’t exhibit significant
image quality deterioration when viewed at an angle. That is why we find it important to measure
each display at an angle of 45 degrees and calculate the percentage by which each aspect
(brightness, gamma, etc.) has altered from its normal reading.
Color charts
Sometimes, it’s easier to get an idea of how good a
display is by comparing its measured colors to reference ones. The ‘Color accuracy’ and
‘Greyscale accuracy’ charts will give you just that, with the latter providing a visual representation
of the color temperature and gamma. The ‘Color gamut’ chart, on the other hand, will show you just
how much of a deviation there is from the colors’ reference points.
