Xiaomi could have its own mobile processors as soon as early 2016

Xiaomi - China's no.1 smartphone maker, and one of the world's top five handset manufacturers - is reportedly getting ready to start using own-designed mobile processors. Most likely developed in collaboration with China-based chipmaker Leadcore, Xiaomi's own processors would certainly help the company be less dependent on Qualcomm and MediaTek. Right now, almost all of Xiaomi's smartphones are powered by CPUs made by the two companies, with the exception of the Redmi 2A, which uses a Leadcore chipset.

According to Chinese website CN Beta, Xiaomi could launch its own processors as soon as early 2016. As previously reported, for the beginning, Xiaomi will likely use its own chipsets only in low-end devices, starting with future Redmi smartphones.

Last year, Xiaomi released two Redmi handsets: the Redmi 1S, and the Redmi Note. In early 2015, the company introduced the Redmi 2, and it's said that a Redmi Note 2 should be launched later this year. Since Xiaomi's own processors aren't expected to be available before 2016, the Redmi Note 2 could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor.
